What is the Human Library?
A conversation at the Human Library is an interactive experience that engages people.
The Human Library creates a safe space for a conversation where topics are discussed openly between our human books and their readers.
You will hear lived experience from someone from a community you might not have met before, someone who is different from you.
A place to ask questions about difficult issues.
An opportunity to challenge stereotypes.

3 British Science Week 2024 Community Grants open now!
Supported by UK Research and Innovation and delivered by the British Science Association, Community Grants help eligible community groups to organise events and activities for their audiences during British Science Week (8-17 March 2024), expanding the number of people who enjoy and take part in science.
For British Science Week 2024, grants of £500 and £1000 are now open to community groups that work with people who are typically underrepresented in science, and which set out to deliver an event or activity that involves the local community, challenges science stereotypes and inspires ongoing science engagement.
The deadline for applications is 11.59 pm on Monday 6 November 2023, so be sure to complete your form in good time!

We fund local projects which aim to keep people safe in their homes with a focus on tackling risks associated with electrical products, increasing the public’s awareness of electrical safety, and promoting changes in behaviour.
Although applications are invited for grants of up to £5,000 per organisation, we may consider larger funding amounts of up to £10,000 for joint and/or larger projects, which focus on or incorporate a data capture element and require cross-agency working.
Who can apply?
Fire and rescue services, trading standards authorities, community safety organisations, schools or other educational institutions, not-for-profit organisations.
Your application must have a focus on helping to keep people electrically safe and be related to ensuring the safety of electrical products in the home.
A new traffic light display, which will indicate if a charity has submitted their accounts and reports to the Commission on time, is being rolled out on the register of charities.
The public register lists all the charities registered in Northern Ireland as well as providing information such as what they do, where they work and their annual accounts for applicable years.
Under the traffic light system, due to go live in early December, the public will also be able to see if a charity has submitted their accounts and reports to the Commission on time or late, and by how many days they are overdue if not submitted at all.
The new traffic light system will indicate if a charity is:
Registered – this will display on a registered charity’s entry up until their first annual reporting deadline date has been reached.
Received: on time – displays on a charity’s entry when they have filed their annual reporting information on time.
Received: x days late – displays on a charity’s entry when the charity’s annual return has been filed after their deadline date, including the number of days overdue.
Overdue: x days– displays on a charity’s entry for the X number of days after their 10-month deadline. The text will be amber if the charity is in default for two weeks or less.
Overdue: x days – displays, in red text, on a charity’s entry when the charity’s annual return is outstanding for more than two weeks.
Removed – displays on a charity’s entry when they have been removed from the register. This is usually because the charity has closed or merged with another charity.
Once a charity is registered, the trustees have a legal duty to report annually to the Commission on the charity’s finances, resources and activities. To check when your charity is due to submit their accounts and reports, please click here.
6 Violence against Women and Girls Strategic Framework
During 2022, two reports were commissioned by the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) Directorate in The Executive Office (TEO), which focused on women and girls experience of violence across Northern Ireland. The research reports were launched recently and have been published on the TEO EVAWG webpage.

This is a monthly support group - which alternates between day and evening runs to enable those who work to attend the evening sessions. Just simply turn up at the session. We will cover a range of topics during these sessions.

WHSCT and Macmillan Health & Wellbeing Campus at Altnagelvin are delighted to be working in partnership with Action Cancer and SWELL (Supported We Life Live) to offer two workshops to support anyone experiencing menopause following treatment for any type of cancer.
The workshops will be led by Dr Gwyneth Hinds and include input from a WHSCT Women’s Health physiotherapist. Content includes how to manage menopausal symptoms, reduce side effects of treatment and improve long term survival.
These workshops have been jointly funded by Action Cancer and WHSCT Endowments & Gifts Fund for patients with cancer.

12Webinar - Movement for all: Getting and staying active with a disability
The Institute of Public Health (IPH) is hosting a webinar on “Getting and Staying Active with a Disability – Insights from Research, Policy and Practice” on Thursday, 26 October between 10am – 12 noon.
Opening remarks will be provided by Minister of State with Responsibility for Disability, Anne Rabbitte TD and confirmed speakers include Catherine Carty, Munster Technological University, Brett Smith, Durham University and Kwok Ng, University of Limerick.
Topics covered will include the importance of physical activity for people with disabilities, guidelines and recommendations for disabled adults and older adults, language and messaging, findings from the all-island report card on physical activity in children and adolescents with disabilities.
IPH Director of Ageing Research & Development, Professor Roger O'Sullivan will also chair a Q&A discussion with a panel of academics, advocates, coaches on the theme on of “Getting and Staying Active with a Disability”.

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has launched a recruitment campaign to appoint a Chair to the Board of Londonderry Port and Harbour Commissioners (LPHC).
No specific academic qualifications are required for the posts and experience within the field of shipping or ports is not essential.
