1 NLCF: Empowering Young People

Empowering Young People will fund one to five year projects that help young people:

  • get the skills they need for their future.
  • have better relationships with their support networks and communities.
  • have good health and well-being.

We are here to help and want to talk to you about your ideas to support communities. You can apply for funding to deliver new or existing activity or to change and adapt to new and future challenges, including the current cost of living crisis.

If you have already submitted an application and are awaiting a decision from us, but you know that your proposed activities and budget will be impacted by the cost-of-living crisis get in touch.

2 Help The Homeless

We are a small charity with limited funds available. Please check carefully that both your organisation and your project meet our criteria before making an application.

  • Your organisation must be registered with the Charity Commission in England, Wales or Northern Ireland or a registered Scottish Charity.
  • We are able to help only small charities with an annual turnover of less than £500,000.
  • We can only accept applications towards the funding of capital projects. We are unable to accept applications towards running/core costs. Note: we are also unable to consider requests for computers and IT equipment.
  • We provide small grants of up to £5,000. We do not consider multi-year requests.
  • There should be a minimum period of two years between the receipt of a decision or grant from us and making a further application.

All applicants must complete our online application form

Deadline: 5pm on 15th December.

You will be informed of the Trustees’ decision within eight weeks of each deadline.

5 Foyle Foodbank Winter Support Information Events

Two free events offering advice and support to the public on the benefits and help available during the winter months will take place:

  • Lisnagelvin Shopping Centre, Thursday 16th November, 11am - 1pm
  • Eglinton Community Centre, Thursday 16th November, 5pm - 7pm

Organisations available will be able to offer advice on Benefits, Tax credit to Universal Credit changeover, Scam awareness and Home Security advice plus general advice on winter support.

Everyone who attends will be entered into a draw to win an air fryer!

 7 North- South Collaboration for impact conference

AkiDwA (a dublin based NGO) and African Carribean Community Network (from Derry) collaborate to host a conference on cultural competency!

The toolkit “Becoming Culturally Competent : Guidelines for Individuals and Groups, Working with Vulnerable Migrants” will be launched in Derry at this event and calls for service providers and other organisations to avail of its culturally competent training in order to improve the support provided to clientele from diverse backgrounds. It will also distribute copies of this toolkit to attendees on the day.

15 Charities Advisory Committee Competition 2023

Appointment of Members to the Northern Ireland Central Investment Fund for Charities Advisory Committee.

The Charities Advisory Committee plays a vital role in assisting the Department in its role as Trustee of the Northern Ireland Central Investment Fund for Charities (the Fund). The Fund impacts on a wide range of charities, allowing them to invest funds with the benefit of expert supervision. It is currently valued at over £55 million.

Applications for new Members to the Committee are now sought. Those appointed will have direct influence on the investment strategy of the Fund and as such it is a unique opportunity for individuals to contribute to the charities sector, whilst developing their own skills and experience. Applications are welcome from those who have an interest in public service, and have the required experience, knowledge and enthusiasm.

16 Commissioner for Older People - Annual Photography Competition

Calling older photographers to snap the positive side of ageing.

The Commissioner's popular Christmas photography competition is back for 2023 and this year the theme is advantAGE – celebrating the positives of ageing!

The competition is seeking older people from across all counties to capture their own interpretation of what they believe the advantages of ageing to be.    
  • The COPNI ‘advantAGE’ competition is open to everyone living in Northern Ireland aged 60 plus.
  • Entries close 12 noon, Friday 1 December 2023.
  • Up to three entries per person can be submitted.
  • Entries must be submitted via email to communications@copni.org or via private message on COPNI’s Facebook page. You can also post a hard copy to The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland, Equality House, 7-9 Shaftesbury Square, BT2 7DP. However, digital copies are recommended.
  •  Please include your name and contact details including phone number and a short description of your photograph.
  • you must have permission of anybody featured in the photograph prior to submission.  
A shortlist of entries will be chosen, and the winner will receive a £200 voucher of their choice, with the winning image being featured on COPNI’s virtual Christmas card, social media channels and newsletter.

17 Ulster-Scots Creative Writing Workshop

Ulster-Scots is first and foremost a spoken language. So how do you start a creative writing project when working in dialect? In this workshop, Scottish writer and performer Kris Haddow will guide you through storytelling exercises and flash fiction prompts. Listening for the language elements and building blocks that makes your voice uniquely yours, you will throw out all the sticky rules of English grammar and spelling that can cause writer’s block – an afore ye ken it, ye’ll be gettin gey guid et scrievin yer ane toty tales yaisin yer ane wurds!
