1CRC: Community Relations / Cultural Diversity Funding
The Community Relations Council, with the support of Government, has established a fund to spend each year on community relations projects. This funding is intended to help community/voluntary groups throughout Northern Ireland develop their capacity to engage in community relations work and to enhance the community relations potential of projects they undertake.
All projects in receipt of CR/CD funding must be completed within this financial year.
Grants are up to £10K maximum and for project costs only.
Average grant is £2K – £5K.
Adapting to Online Delivery
In these unprecedented times we understand that many of the traditional delivery methods are not possible. With this in mind CRC has been gathering together some of the current good practice in relation to delivering programmes online and in different formats.
Please check out the examples of work currently taking place:
Applications are invited from community and voluntary sector organisations, youth groups, schools and colleges who are working with young people aged 12-25 in Northern Ireland.
Proposals should be clearly focused on the fund’s objectives and have been developed in conjunction with young people.
Proposals should take into account the impact of the Covid-19 in how the project will be delivered and how the pandemic has affected young people’s prospects.
The fund welcomes applications which seek to pilot innovative, creative and technological solutions, particularly where these could be upscaled or replicated.
The fund welcomes applications which involve cross community collaboration and partnership as a means of meeting the challenges common to all young people.
Funding can be used to cover equipment (at up to £5,000), as well as activity, materials, training and staffing costs.
All applicants will have access to capacity building support through a free accelerator programme. Successful applicants will also receive up to 30 hours of bespoke mentoring support.
Applying to the David Cross Young People's Fund Stage One: Submission of online application via the Community Foundation’s website www.communityfoundationni.orgby 1:00pm on11th September 2020. This must include an organisation strength checker – https://vcsestrengthchecker.org.uk/. This must be attached to your application, and must help shape the nature of what you are requesting financial assistance for.
Stage Two: Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their project to the David Cross Young People’s Fund panel in early October. This will consist of a 5 to 10 minute presentation, followed by approximately ten minutes of discussion and questions from the panel representatives. Please note that depending on government restrictions and social distancing guidelines, the presentation may be done remotely using an online platform.
Successful applicants will be given 12 months from date of award to complete their project.

We hope you continue to find these updates useful – don’t forget to check our website and nidirect regularly for the latest information on the impact of COVID-19 on our services.
Northern Ireland’s Health service has launched this mobile phone App to help ‘contact tracing’ of people potentially infected by the virus. It is a major aid in the battle to control the spread and stop a return to lockdown.
The app doesn’t know who the user is or where they’ve been, but if they test positive for COVID-19 the app can anonymously identify other users that are at heightened risk of acquiring the virus and give them advice and guidance. We know that the more people who use an app like this, the more protection it will provide to our community. We have even built a private exchange of information with the app in the Republic of Ireland, so it will provide benefit for everyone on the island of Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Executive have agreed that from Monday 10th August 2020, wearing face covering (masks) in shops and other enclosed spaces will become compulsory.
From 10 August the use of face coverings when you are in a public area indoors, such as in a shop when social distancing is not possible, will be mandatory. You must also wear a face covering on public transport. From 10 August it will be mandatory to wear a face covering in a shop or shopping centre, or any indoor public space where it is not possible to maintain social distancing.
The reason for using face coverings
Coronavirus (COVID-19) usually spreads by droplets from coughs, sneezes and speaking. These droplets can also be picked up from surfaces, if you touch a surface and then your face without washing your hands first.
This is why social distancing, regular hand hygiene, and covering coughs and sneezes is important in controlling the spread of the virus.
The best available scientific evidence is that, when used correctly, wearing a face covering may reduce the spread of coronavirus droplets in certain circumstances, helping to protect others.
Because face coverings are mainly intended to protect others, not the wearer, from coronavirus (COVID-19) they’re not a replacement for social distancing and regular hand washing.
It’s important to follow all the other government advice on coronavirus (COVID-19) including staying safe outside your home.
If you have recent onset of any of the most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19):
a new continuous cough
a high temperature
a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of smell or taste (anosmia)
8Reflecting on the Virtual Summit - The 'New Normal' for the C&V Sector
We've all heard the phrase 'New Normal'. But what does this mean for the community and voluntary sector?
A few weeks back S3 Solutions held our first ever virtual summit to discuss just that. We were joined by a range of esteemed speakers including The National Lottery Community Fund, Rethink Ireland, The Community Foundation NI, Elemental Software, B4B Group, Log Me In and Care Meseyside. We were overwhelmed by the response and interest from organisations of all shapes and sizes from across the UK and Ireland. Having had some time to reflect on the event, our Consultancy Director Eamonn Seydak has jotted down a few of the key takeways that might be of interest to you. Read Here!
If you missed our event, don't worry! You can catch up on all the discussions from the day below:
S3 Solutions, The Community Foundation NI, The National Lottery Community Fund and Rethink Ireland discuss funding in the new normal: New priorities? Identifiying Need? What opportunities are on the horizon?
Log Me In and B4B Group provide the latest on new tools and tips to engage, consult and connect with beneficiaries and communities virtually and enhance organisations' digital engagement in this new digital world.
Elemental and Care Merseyside share their experiences of digital transformation and how it has enhanced connectivity to services for beneficiaries, impact measurement drawing down additional funding.
Over the past 9 years, there has been little progress made with the implementation of the Autism Strategy, which was a result from the Autism Act NI (2011). The autism community in Northern Ireland deserve better and we are in full support of MLA Pam Cameron’s proposed Private Members Bill on Autism.
This Bill proposes an oversight function and a new funding model to guarantee independent scrutiny and drive forward the strategic implementation of dedicated autism services.
We need your help to make a difference as we can’t do this on our own. Your voice needs to be heard. Please take 5 minutes to complete this quick survey. Now is the time to help us make the difference that is so badly needed. Please also share this far and wide!

12Look up from Lock down - Workshop available to community groups
Michaela Mc Daid Ecotherapy
This workshop has been specifically designed in response to the emotional challenges experienced during lockdown and the need to readjust to a ‘new normal’ as restrictions are lifted. As such it acknowledges our individual and collective experiences of the pandemic, and makes time to breathe deeply, reflect and refocus our attention with self care and community support.
At three hours duration, this is an ideal one-off workshop for volunteers and staff returning to a working environment with new protocols and procedures in place. It is equally beneficial to those who have continued to work on location during lockdown and need to take stock of the changing environment.
It is preferable to facilitate this course with access to a natural outdoor space because Ecotherapy is encouraged for reducing stress and improving mood. However, if this is not possible, the content can easily be adapted for indoor delivery.
