The Community Foundation is delighted to open the Cancer Charities’ Support Fund with a value of £10m on behalf of the Department of Health.
The Cancer Support Funding award will enable charities to provide a wide range of support services for cancer patients throughout NI, and will cover key areas in the cancer pathway; from pre-diagnosis, through to palliative and end of life care. These services are key support mechanisms towards the implementation of the Cancer Recovery Plan and the Cancer Strategy, and important in working towards the Department’s aim of building cancer service capacity in communities.
The grant value available for this round will range from £5,000 to £30,000
This fund has been established by the Nationwide Building Society, based on a corporate donation, to support registered charities across Northern Ireland who are providing support to their communities under at least one of the following themes:
Theme 1 - mental health
Theme 2 - community services
Theme 3 - children
This fund will open for applications on Tuesday 14th September 2021 at 9.00am. Please revisit the website after this date to access the application form.
There is no fixed application deadline, however we will cap the number of applications to each Local Fund Area on a roughly 1:2 ratio basis. This means that once we have received twice as many applications as the funding available can support we will close the fund to any further bids. This will be done on an area by area basis.

4Heart Research UK and SUBWAY® Healthy Heart Grants
Heart Research UK and SUBWAY® Healthy Heart Grants of up to £10,000 are available for new, original, and innovative projects that focus on heart health and promote healthier, happier longer lives.
Funding is now available to charities and community organisations for new, original, and innovative projects that actively promote a healthy heart and help to prevent, or reduce the risk of heart disease in your community.
Changes for 2021
In response to the pandemic, the criteria has been adapted for their Healthy Heart grants. They will provide -
Funding for projects that can be delivered remotely or with social distancing measures in place that last up to 12 months. Although projects that last for several months may be preferable, we would consider shorter projects, such as one-off events that may last as little as one day or one week (e.g. a socially distanced or online workshop or community event; or a week-long training course).
Grants for purchases of equipment only, such as exercise equipment, technology, blood pressure monitors, weighing scales etc). This will only be considered if the equipment can be safely used under current social distancing measures and the equipment should be used to promote heart health.
Help the Homeless are supplying small-medium size charities with funding for essential capital work.
Projects must assist individuals in their return to mainstream society, rather than simply offering shelter or other forms of sustenance.
All applicants must complete our official application form. Applicants should clearly describe the aims and structure of their organisation, their future plans and specific details of how any grant will be spent. A copy of the latest available audited accounts is also required.
Deadlines for applications for funding this year are: 15th September & 15th December. You will be informed of the trustees’ decision within six weeks of each deadline.
