1 Small Grants for Active Travel Available
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor John Boyle, is reminding local organisations in the District that grant funding is available host events and training sessions that encourage people to travel by foot or bicycle.
The Active Travel Grants scheme is available thanks to funding from the Council and the NI Public Health Agency and offers grants of up to £1,000 to organisations such as walking and cycling clubs, schools, universities, community groups and employers.
Mayor Boyle urged local groups to apply now to help progress their organisation’s active travel agenda. “Council is currently accepting applications following the successful summer round in June,” he said, adding that “The process has also been improved with a new online application form.”
“There is a responsibility on all of us to make a conscious effort to be as active as possible in our travel choices and local organisations can take the lead on that by hosting events and training sessions and putting in place the necessary infrastructure to encourage and accommodate active travel choices.
“The Active Travel Grant scheme is in keeping with the aims and objectives of the Transport and Infrastructure group in Council’s Community Plan to promote a more integrated, sustainable and accessible transport system, which maximises growth, social inclusion and quality of life.”
This is the second year the Scheme has run and is the second of two rounds of funding which runs until 31 March 2018. The deadline for this round is 12 noon on 7 September 2018 for events and trainings beginning in the autumn.
Eligible groups must be non-profit making and based within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and a minimum of four events must be organised across the financial year ending March 2018.
Council reserves the right to withhold funding from any event that does not adequately and appropriately promote the Council’s messages of walking and cycling.

Heritage Enterprise supports enterprising community organisations across the UK to rescue neglected historic buildings and sites and unlock their economic potential. You can apply for a grant from £100,000 to £5million.
Scheme details
Historic buildings are known to attract thriving businesses, and yet many of them lie vacant and derelict. With a Heritage Enterprise grant you can breathe new life into historic sites by repairing, adapting and giving them a productive new use. By funding much of the repair costs they hope to
encourage private developers to work with community organisations to deliver commercially viable schemes.
Heritage Enterprise projects should achieve all of the outcomes listed below.

In these cases one of our other grant programmes may be more appropriate.
How to apply
Heritage Enterprise applications go through a two- round process. This is so that you can apply at an early stage of planning your project and get an idea of whether you have a good chance of getting a grant before you send your proposals in greater detail. At the first and second round, they assess your application in three months, and then it goes to the next decision meeting. Your development phase can take up to 24 months, depending on the complexity of
your project. They recommend that you send a project enquiry form before you apply. Register a project enquiry here
Decision Meetings
Your grant request determines which decision meeting your application will go to. This is the combined total of your development grant (if applicable) and delivery grant.
Grant requests of over £100,000 and under £2million: Decisions are made by their committees in Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England, which meet every three months. Contact your local HLF office for more information on deadline and meeting dates.
Grant requests of £2million and up to £5million: Decisions are made every two months by the Board of Trustees.

7 Extern Positive Learning
This project is the first of its kind in the North-West region. Extern has been awarded €1.88m of EU funding under the PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU programmes Body (SEUPB).
The project, known as Extern Positive Learning, will work with people who often find themselves on the margins of society, including people who are disadvantaged due to offending history, homelessness, long-term unemployment, or who are refugees. It aims to improve good relations and enable participants to reintegrate into society.
Adults from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds will be brought together in the programme to explore and change their current perceptions at various stages on their personal journeys. Core areas covered include Good Relations, Citizenship, Mentoring and Personal Development. Participants will also be offered accredited training in new skills to benefit the community, including Electrical, Carpentry, ICT, Horticulture, Manual Handling and Catering, during the 26-week programme.
The Project is based in Springtown Industrial Estate L’Derry and will deliver within the Letterkenny, Carndonagh, Buncrana, Limavady and Londonderry/Derry catchment areas. Partners in delivering the new service are The Probation Service Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Prison Service, TIDES Training and Consultancy, The Probation Service Ireland and, it is envisaged, the Irish Prison Service. We are open to referrals from HMP Magilligan, Probation Services in NI and ROI, Homeless Sector and other community groups.
Extern is the largest social justice charity across the island of Ireland, working in 22 counties. In Northern Ireland, Extern is funded to deliver projects by Government Departments including the Executive Office, Departments for Health, Justice, Communities, Economy and Education.
In the Republic of Ireland, Extern delivers funded projects for the Departments of Children and Youth Affairs and Justice and Equality. We receive support from Ireland’s European Investment and Structural Funds Programme, as well as delivering significant funded services for An Tusla, Irish Youth Justice Service, Health Service Executive and Limerick Regeneration Agencies. Extern leads on 4 Garda Diversion projects, and the Irish Youth Justice Service’s Bail Support Scheme for Dublin.

Mission reACT is a Training Course that aims to support the professional development of young trainers and to raise the quality of their projects concerning (European) citizenship.
Food and Accommodation is provided and a Travel Allowance of up to €275 is also available, all of which is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme.
Participants should be aged 18 and over and from the UK. As Inside Out is based in Northern Ireland we target participants primarily (but not exclusively so) from Northern Ireland.
We are looking to recruit two practitioners, be that young leaders (18-30), youth work practitioners or practitioners with a remit for young people who are not only willing to actively and fully participate in the programme but are prepared to engage in post-programme activity that ensures learning is maximised and shared within their organisation and/or willing to initiate activity with unemployed young people.

20 TV Licence - Simple Payment Plan trial: only a few weeks left to sign up!
Since April, TV Licensing has been trialling a new way to pay the TV licence: the Simple Payment Plan. It is our most affordable and most flexible plan, designed to help those who are struggling financially. If the payment plan is followed, payments will average around £3 a week.
As this is a trial, it has a limited sign up period: customers can sign up to the Simple Payment Plan until 30th September 2018.
On the Simple Payment Plan, eligible customers will be able to pay for a TV Licence in 12 equal monthly or 26 fortnightly payments. On this scheme only, customers do not need to pay for a first licence in six months, as required under current legislation for cash scheme customers and monthly Direct Debit customers.
Importantly, the plan offers flexibility if payments are missed. If a customer does miss a payment, it can be spread across the remainder of the plan, instead of paying double the amount next time. If the customer misses three months of payments in a row, they will be removed from the plan permanently and will be unable to rejoin it.
Who is eligible?

The plan will only be available to certain groups of customers, identified as those most in need:

People referred via debt advice charities listed in the legislation, including Advice NI, Citizens Advice (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland), Citizens Advice Scotland, Money Advice Trust, and StepChange Debt Charity. Other charities will be able to refer their clients to one of these organisations, if they think they might be eligible for the plan.

People who have previously held a licence which was recently cancelled within the last six months because of missed payments.

People who have been interviewed under caution for TV licence fee evasion and so may face prosecution.
Those in the last two categories will be invited to join by TV Licensing.
