1 Unscheduled Care in Western Trust area - Your experience, views and suggestions

Can you spare 15 minutes of your valuable time to answer eight straightforward questions about Unscheduled Care in this part of the Western Health & Social Care Trust area?

If so please click here to begin this anonymous survey.

North West Community Network has been commissioned by the Western Local Commissioning Group (LCG) to conduct Community Engagement around the area of Unscheduled Care.

Unscheduled Care basically refers to when someone accesses health and social care services unexpectedly.  This can occur at any time and crosses the traditional boundaries between general practitioner (GP), community and hospital services and means there must be a 24 hour service available.

Across the Western Trust area, over 1000 surveys will be completed by the end of March 2017 and then analysed to determine what changes or priorities need to be considered in the shaping and commissioning of future services.

You can decide to complete the survey yourself, share it with friends and family, colleagues and service users.  The value and analysis of responses will be greatly improved if you can include answers on Age, Gender and Post Code so you are kindly asked to record these.

Your can complete this survey electronically here or, if more convenient, print and complete by hand.  It is also available on the Network's website -  www.nwcn.org

We have a number of Volunteering opportunities for the Alzheimer’s Society in the Foyle area. Why not volunteer today!

Will you join the thousands of volunteers already taking on dementia?
There are so many exciting and important ways in which you can play your part, be it fundraising, research or as a volunteer in one of our services. Whether you can give an hour, a day or more, you can make an important difference to the life of someone living with dementia.

We are currently looking for an Administration Support volunteer to help with general office duties, which can include filing, photocopying, receiving visitors and answering telephone calls.
The role is flexible and we do hope you will be able to offer a few hours each week or fortnight, and provide some continuity over a number of months.

Administration support volunteers help to provide an efficient administration function, providing important support to colleagues involved with the delivery of services and other essential activities. The role does not expect you to manage the whole administration service but to provide help and assistance to colleagues, so that local administration is as effective as possible.

11  Bring The Big Lunch to your Neighbourhood

This year The Big Lunch annual day for neighbours forms part of The Great Get-Together weekend, which will take place June 17 and 18.

The Big Lunch provide a free pack to get party planning started and are encouraging neighbours and community groups UK wide to
order your free Big Lunch starter pack >(https://www.edenprojectcommunities.com/join-in-get-your-free-big-lunch-starter-pack) and take part by celebrating community spirit where ever you live on  June 17-18.

What is The Great Get Together Weekend?
The Great Get-Together is a weekend of community celebration aiming to bring people together to enjoy a diverse mix of activities including Big Lunches on Sunday 18 June.
It is a unique collaboration between the Jo Cox Foundation, The Big Lunch and a range of great community organisations who share the ambition to positively impact people’s lives, and the places where they live.
The idea was launched by the Duchess of Cornwall and
Jamie Oliver at Clarence house, and is hoped to be the largest community celebration since the Jubilee.
Over 4000 people have already signed up to take part, and many charities, businesses and organisations are also getting behind the idea.

What is The Big Lunch?
The Big Lunch is the annual get-together for neighbours held each year one Sunday in June. In 2016 7.3 million people got-together to share food, friendship and fun.
Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of communities, with millions of people taking to their streets, gardens and community spaces for lunch. Your event can be anything from a simple get-together with neighbours in your backyard to a full-blown street party or community event.

How do we join in?
What you do and how you do it is up to you - the key ingredient is people.
Often a Big Lunch starts with a small group of friends and neighbours with an idea to get people together on one day in the year (usually a date in June). With a bit of door knocking, word of mouth and a few flyers, the ‘founding allies’ can get it to snowball into a proper plan involving the whole neighbourhood. The free pack provides all you need to kick things off locally.

What’s the aim?
The Big Lunch, an idea from the Eden project and funded by the Big Lottery, aims to help ordinary people develop relationships on their doorsteps. In turn people start to share things, from conversation and ideas to skill and resources, building stronger, happier, healthier and more resilient communities.

16 ‘Let the Dance Begin’ - The ‘Creative Gathering’ Event

An innovative Town Model of Arts, Health and Well-being Information on The ‘Creative Gathering’ Event
Using the Pushkin Trust theme for 2017 ‘Floodtide in the Heart’

Tuesday 28th March 2017, 10.00am - 4.00pm in the Main Hall in the Guildhall in the heart of Derry City

‘The Gathering’ is one of a series of Arts, Health and Well-being events hosted by Arts Care, Pushkin Trust and the Public Health Agency as part of the wider ‘Let the Dance Begin’ partnership project.
Arts Care is a leading Arts and Health Regional Organisation.
Pushkin Trust is a leading Arts and Environment cross Ireland Education Organisation.

The Public Health Agency is the major regional organisation for health protection and health and social wellbeing improvement.

The concept of the ‘Creative Gathering’ has evolved from the successful ‘Let the Dance Begin’ Arts Town and Well-being partnership project now in its fifth year of delivery in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. The theme has been adopted from the Pushkin Trust programme theme 2016/17, ‘Floodtide of the Heart’.

The programme for the event will bring together experts from the Education, Health, Arts, Business and Community Sector as well as artists from different disciplines and project participants who will showcase their work.

The ‘Creative Gathering’ recognises the significance of providing an opportunity for people across the Health, Education, Arts, Community & Business Sector to come together to explore and build their knowledge of the arts, gaining further insight into how creativity can strategically and practically transform individual and community life.

It seems timely to bring people together from a personal and professional perspective, to explore how we develop an innovative and creative model of community health and well-being that transforms our experience of managing a healthier and happier life both locally and globally through a ‘creative caring model’ of community living.

The ‘Gathering’ will be hosted in the Guildhall, one of Derry City’s most recognisable landmarks which has been at the heart of community life both locally and internationally since 1890.
Whilst visiting the Guildhall you can enjoy the stunning architecture, unique stained glass windows and exhibitions.
This event will benefit; professionals from health, arts, education, business, community organisations, volunteers, students, carers and citizens.
The programme is also supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Children in Need, the Derry City and Strabane District Council, Western Health and Social Care Board and the regional Health and Social Care Board.

Mohamad Noor and his Band

Mohamad is a professional singer from Syria. He arrived in Derry in May 2016. His new energetic band have formed and rehearsed especially for this concert. As well as enjoying Mohamad's voice, you can marvel at Sami Fodel on keyboard, and tap your feet with Asem Sweidan on drums.

The concert is organised by Asem Sweidan. This event is part of The Marhaba: Hello Project of Sole Purpose Productions, funded by the Department for Communities.

The Artists

Mohamad Noor is a Syrian singer who has been living in Derry for about a year.  Mohamad found his passion for singing from a young age. He entertained school friends, then took his love of  music out to his community. The war in Syria put his music career on hold and forced him to leave the country. Mohamad says the only thing he owns is his voice which he uses to entertain us. The love of his fans and their support has encouraged him. He is proud of all of those who supported him.

Asem Sweidan is the band  manager - the band needed support, promotion and translation. Asem was there at every step of the way, he used his passion for drumming to express his happiness and to support the band. Asem says yes its a new band and the goal is to reach every listener, every party and every house.

Sami Fodel is an amazing oriental keyboard player, his musical instrument took him from Algeria to turkey, to France then to Derry. The music as he sees it is an international language that needs no translation, it connects all of us.

Rami Zahra is a jornalist and songwriter, Rami has dedicated his work to humanity, to the suffering of his homeland Syria and it's war victims.  Rami is a great asset to the group.

Mostafa Algedoah is a Syrian artist, he has been living in Derry for about a year. Mostafa has a passion for Dabke dancing, he teamed up with other migrants and locals recently to spread the fun of the levant dance. Dabke is an Arab folk dance native to the Levant countries. It is performed in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Hatay and Northern  Saudi Arabia.

Audrey Doherty began learning Middle Eastern dance in London almost 20 years ago and currently teaches mainly Egyptian style. Audrey performs Arabic dance nationally and internationally. She is also a Carnival  stilt -walker and Street Spectacle performance artist.

Sheeoneh started her training in Middle Eastern Dance around 20 years ago in Germany with a former member of the Mahmoud Reda Dance Troupe.  She has performed and taught in Germany and the United States as well as Ireland and the UK.
