1 Rural Micro Capital Grants Programme 2018
This Scheme is funded under the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Tackling Rural Poverty and Social Isolation Programme.
Micro Capital grants of between £200 and £1,500 are available to rural community-led, voluntary organisations for projects tackling issues of local poverty and / or social isolation.
The total project cost must not exceed £3,000.
Projects must clearly address an issue of rural poverty and / or social isolation and applicants must provide a minimum of 15% match funding.
The scheme is being delivered by the Rural Support Networks on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. Application forms, guidance notes and further advice and information is available from the Rural Support Network in your council area, details below.
Key objectives
The Rural Micro Capital Grant Scheme 2018 has been designed to:

Help rural community-led, voluntary groups to address local issues of access poverty, financial poverty and social isolation; and
-
Improve the lives of rural communities, and in particular the wellbeing of isolated individuals.
Projects must focus on one of the following three themes:

Modernisation (of premises / assets)

Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Health and Wellbeing

The Keynote speaker, Dr Claire Bynner from the University of Glasgow will reflect on insights from Scotland on her work on citizen engagement and participatory democracy. Dr Bynner is research associate with What Works Scotland an initiative that is working to improve the way local areas in Scotland use evidence to make decisions about public service development and reform.

Volunteers Needed - Barefoot & Fancy Free
On Sunday 23rd September Holywell Trust is a partner (with The Playhouse, An Culturlann and The Playtrial) in the delivery of the Barefoot and Fancy Free event at The Playtrail. This is an action packed family fun day- featuring Liam Ó Maonlaí, Basork (Balkan Alien Sound Orchestra), Inishowen Gospel Choir to name a few. The all-inclusive family friendly event as part of Good Relations Week 2018 will see an eclectic and culturally diverse mix of music, dance, arts and lots of alternative barefoot activities!
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the activities on the day. If you are interested please email.
We are also hoping for some brave soles to take part in a sponsored Firewalk (part of the overall event) that will raise funds for The Playtrail. If you feel that you are up for the challenge then let us know.

8 Good Relations Week - 17th – 23rd September 2018
Good Relations Week is a fantastic platform to showcase the good work that organisations in our area are doing in the field of community relations and cultural awareness. This week will celebrate all aspects
of our culture and heritage, promotes cultural diversity and tackles sectarianism and racism. It is about inspiring new ideas, promoting understanding, respect and engagement between and amongst all sections of our community.
Good Relations Week will run from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd September 2018 and the theme of the week is Then, Now... Next? Which focuses on 20 years after the Good Agreement, how far we have come and what we should do next.
Over 30 events are taking place throughout the Derry City and Strabane District including workshops, training events, launches, music events, showcases of work, public events and private events.
The Executive Office, The Department for Communities, The Department of Justice and other Government Agencies are supporting the week, and events are being organised by a wide range of bodies, including the Council, libraries, museums, community and voluntary groups, and youth organisations.

19 Book Launch - Friday 14th September 6pm
You are invited to the launch of PLAYS FOR SOCIAL IMPACT by Patricia Byrne. One of the events to mark 21 YEARS of SOLE PURPOSE PRODUCTIONS. These are four plays that have toured widely since 2004 and that have tackled important social issues: Don't Say A Word - a play on domestic violence; See No Evil - a portrayal of elder abuse; A Wee Taste - a play on underage drinking; Every Move You Make - a drama on abusive relationships among young people. These scripts will now be available for teachers, social workers and community workers to use with groups. Each book includes a workshop plan that can be used to explore the issues.
Come along to the launch on Friday 14th September at 6pm in The Derry Playhouse.

20 St Columba: Towards 2020: Celebrating our Shared Christian Heritage
The Churches Trust invites you to take part on 18 September 2018 in a cultural event of common interest to different local faith traditions where we will explore the shared history and faith of St.Columba, the patron Saint of Derry~Londonderry.
The event will involve meeting in St Columb’s Park House at 10am, for an introductory session about Columba, followed by a guided tour of the Columba Heritage Trail, and concluding with lunch and an address from a guest speaker.
Participants will learn about our common Christian Heritage and consider how we should celebrate the 1500th anniversary of Columba in 2020.

21 Celebrate International Day of Peace with Peace in the Park
Peace in the Park is celebrating the 2018 International Day of Peace with a “Growing Peace” event at St. Columb’s Park House. This event will highlight the importance of building peace in our community through fun and interactive activities and arts and crafts, a perfect way for children to become involved in thinking about peace building. There will be live music and the installation of a Peace Pole, an international symbol of a commitment to building peace.

22 Call for Participant Groups- Halloween Carnival Parade 18
North West Carnival are currently recruiting participants for this year's 'Return of the Ancients' Halloween Carnival Parade and are eager to engage groups in our carnival arts programmes, culminating in the Halloween Carnival Parade Showcase.
Its important that interested parties return the "Expression of Interest" forms by the deadline of Thursday 13th September, we have limited resources but will endeavour to facilitate everyone who wishes to take part.
