Fundraising can be very competitive, so being organised and prepared to communicate your appeal to funders and donors is a must.
Join Jocelyn Horton, NICVA’s Fundraising Advice Officer and learn how developing a Case for Support can improve your fundraising efforts whether you are focusing on trusts and foundations, major donors, or individual giving. The session will also explore what funders want to know and ways to use your Case for Support in your communications and opportunities to chat with others.
Lunch included.
To book your place email info@nwcn.org or call Roisin on 028 7126 1941
Project Costs support the aims and delivery of a specific piece of work. This work will usually be time-limited and based on a defined set of activities.
Our Project Costs Funding Stream is for charities and not-for-profit organisations. Applicants to this programme can apply for grants for up to three years. We aim to give quicker decisions for grants of £15,000 or less per year.
The Project Costs stream has no application deadline – you can apply at any time
This programme offers small scale capital grants of between £1,000 and £10,000. This is to support communities by creating more sustainable and resilient outdoor spaces through:
Greening - planting more trees and plants in an area
rewilding - allowing nature to take over an area
water management - slowing rainwater before it gets to the drainage systems.
The funding helps increase access to those spaces. The types of projects that could be funded include:
community gardens (a single piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people)
pocket parks and forests (small urban or rural forests)
allotments (an area of land used for growing fruit and vegetables)
rain gardens (an area which is planted so that rainwater from roofs, driveways, etc runs into it and soaks into the ground, and therefore does not cause flooding or other problems)
green roofs (a roof that is partially or completely covered with vegetation)
ponds and living walls or vertical gardens (vertical structures that have living plants or other greenery attached to them).
installation of outdoor furniture or features to encourage usage
measures to encourage walking, wheeling and cycling.
We are giving out these grants on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure.
Suitable for: Voluntary or community organisations and schools
Funding size: £1,000 - £10,000 for capital costs Application deadline: 5pm 6 January 2023

The Challenging Prejudice Leadership Development Programme is part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s proactive approach to improving good relations.
The programme will provide opportunities for community representatives, Council staff and the wider community to promote the city, towns and villages as safe and welcoming places for all people. It aims to develop positive relationships between people of different community backgrounds, and to enhance skills to help participants contribute to improving the attitudes of people within their local areas.
The Leadership Chapter
Through a series of interactive workshops community leaders (17) will explore genocide and in particular the Bosnian genocide in Srebrenica , how it happened, why it happened and how the lessons learned from it can be used to address key issues in today’s society e.g. prejudice, racism, the refugee crisis. The UN described the killings as ‘the worst atrocity on European soil since the Second World War’. It is hoped that the programme will equip community leaders to challenge prejudice in their own communities and in doing so, become champions of Local Community Planning. This programme will provide an excellent opportunity to critically evaluate one of the most horrific events of the 20th century.
The programme incorporates two elements: 3 training sessions (2 pre-visit to Srebrenica and 1 after the a study visit) which will make a total of 3 days.
Training Days: Monday 6th February 2029 9.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m. Monday 20th February 2023 9.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m. Study Trip: Leave: Monday 13th March 2023 5.00 a.m. flight from Dublin
Return: Thursday 16th March Final Day: Date to be agreed with participating group
NB: Participants are required to commit to take part in the entire programme.
Participants must already have a valid passport for travel in order to be considered for the programme. Participants are encouraged, in line with current government advice, to keep their COVID vaccinations up to date not only to protect themselves but also those, especially older people such as the Mothers of Srebrenica, with whom they will have contact as part of the programme.
Currently there are 17 places available and if you would like to express an interest in participating on the programme please complete the attached form and return it to Martin Gallagher at martin.gallagher@derrystrabane.com before the closing date.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 2nd December 2022.
8Could you represent your charity & the sector in the Commission’s stakeholder forum?
An open call for charity representatives to join the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s stakeholder engagement forum has been issued.
The forum, which launched last summer with 14 members from across the NI charity sector, provides an avenue by which the Commission and charities can directly communicate about issues that matter to them.
The forum meets four times a year and has a membership cap of 30, with meetings providing an opportunity to highlight issues and trends affecting the sector as well as discuss issues such as the Commission’s approach to registration and dealing with concerns about charities, which help to shape the future of charity regulation. The Commission recognises the time commitment members give to their charities and, to reduce travel time, the forum mostly meets virtually.
While applications from any charity are welcome, the Commission is particularly keen to hear from potential members from various sectors that are currently underrepresented, such as the age, faith and sporting sectors.
Anyone interested in joining the forum can find out more on what the forum does, how it operates and what membership entails, at an online information session being held on Thursday 1 December 2022. After the information session those that have attended and are able to make this commitment will be able to apply to join the forum.
If you would like to attend the information session or are interested in joining the forum but are unable to make the information session, please email events@charitycommissionni.org.uk, leaving your name, role and the name of your charity.
