3 FREE Fundraising Clinics
On Monday 19th November organisations can book a free one hour slot with Lynn Kennedy, NICVA’s Fundraising Advice Officer, for discussing current funding applications, exploring potential new sources of income, developing a fundraising plan or a fundraising strategy or simply taking the opportunity to have a sounding board regarding anything fundraising-related. You can also just search for suitable grants on GrantTracker.
The clinics are 1-1 but those attending are welcome to bring along others from their organisation. These clinics will be run in partnership with North West Community Network.

5 Future Leaders Programme
Holywell Trust is rolling out a new programme - Future Leaders - to create a new cohort of community leaders in the North West. We are seeking up to 20 people to take part in the programme that will run from October 2018 - July 2019.
Through the programme participants will undertake a twenty-session programme on a range of topics (Personal Development, Good Relations, Innovation for Change, Conflict Resolution, Creative Thinking and more) engaging with experts and creating community connections.
Participants will also work in small teams to deliver a community-focused project by the end of the project.
The Future Leaders programme is open to people from all backgrounds and ages - we want to develop a cohort with a broad range of skills and experience who can work collectively to positively change our place for years to come.
If this interests you, or you would like more information, please get in touch. You will be asked to complete a short expression of interest form and there may also be a group recruitment process. We look forward to hearing from you!

7 HMRC Grant Funding 2019-2020
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has launched a £1.6 million grant programme which is available to voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations in the UK.
VCS organisations with an income that exceeds £40,000 a year and that provide advice and support to HMRC customers who need extra help understanding and complying with their tax obligations can apply now for funding that covers 2019 to 2020.
Grants will range from £10,000 to £450,000 with a maximum threshold set at 50% of the organisation’s turnover (last audited accounts).
Organisations must be able to help HMRC customers that are hard to reach and who cannot or will not interact directly with HMRC either due to culture, language, trust, or geography.
The funding is for bids that include one or more of the following activities:

Advice and support.
-
Digital inclusion.
-
Specialist support and referrals.
Applicants must have the infrastructure and capability to handle in the region of 700 referrals per year and would be responsible for bringing individual cases to conclusion.

9 ‘Self compassion and responding to trauma’
WAVE Trauma Centre are holding a ‘Self compassion and responding to trauma’ course in their Derry Londonderry Centre.
This is a 1 day workshop taking place on 1 November 2018 from 10 am–4 pm at cost of £50.
This one day workshop which will explore the impact of psychological trauma on an individual’s ability to develop and maintain compassion for themselves and others. The workshop is influenced and informed by Gilbert’s model of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) applied within the Northern Ireland context of the Troubles. Students will be provided with an overview of the Compassion model with an emphasis on the role of shame, self-criticism and trauma symptomology.
The workshop would be of interest to those working with individuals and families who have experienced trauma and subsequent shame, self-criticism and low mood.

11 ‘Community of Homes’: Digital Art project
Beginning October 2018
The Churches Trust in partnership with the Inner City Trust and the Nerve Centre are recruiting 16 young people (16 – 24 years) to take part in this imaginative, creative art project, funded by the Department for Communities.
The platform on which the project will be framed is the creation of a public art piece as a team. This is a themed project of ‘togetherness’ where participants will explore good relations, diversity and citizenship, create a wall art mural and ultimately produce a piece of public art.

16 Appointment of a Chair to the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is seeking to appoint a Chair to the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI). AFBI is a DAERA Executive Non-Departmental Public Body (NDBP) set up under the powers of the Agriculture (NI) Order 2004. It is empowered under the Order to undertake scientific work (research and development, testing, advice and information on scientific matters and dissemination of the results of scientific research) in the fields of agriculture, animal health and welfare, food, fisheries, forestry, the natural environment and rural development and enterprise. Time Commitment and Remuneration: Chair role requires approximately 40 days per annum. This position is remunerated at £26,510 per annum (currently under review). Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will also be reimbursed along with reasonable costs relating to care of dependents, including childcare.
Terms of Appointment: The successful candidate will be appointed for a 3 year period from 1st April 2019. An additional 2 year term may be offered, subject to satisfactory performance and attendance.

Applicants will be expected to complete an application form demonstrating how they meet the essential criteria for appointment. Dr George Moore is often cited as a founding father of the data analytics industry. As an Honorary Graduate of Ulster University, the establishment of this prestigious endowed Chair in his name honours his significant contribution to this increasingly important field. This Chair supports Ulster’s ambitions, as a centre of excellence in the field of data analytics, by providing funds to engage a stellar, world-class academic as well as an associated research fellow to increase our research power and impact.
This gift is the largest private donation to Ulster University’s work and builds on Magee’s history of philanthropy when the campus was established in 1865 with the support of a gift of £20,000 (equivalent to £2 million today) from Martha Magee.
Mark Briers is Programme Director at The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. Prior to this, Mark spent 17 years working in industry as a senior research lead in the area of cyber security and statistical inference. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and a Royal Statistical Society Council member. Mark holds a PhD in Information Engineering from University of Cambridge.
Mark will deliver a talk on the future of data analytics and highlight the importance of this investment in Ulster University’s global impact.

19 NWJCG presents: Film Showing "Little Voices From Fukushima"

Admission Free, Followed by a discussion with the director of the film, Hitomi Kamanaka (Japan) and Rob Davies and Phil Steele (People Against Wylfa B, Wales), who will all be connected over Skype.
This film shows the tremendous efforts made by mothers who live in Fukushima, based in the area outside of the forced evacuated zone but which is nonetheless highly contaminated by radiation.
They are determined to protect their children from radiation after the nuclear accident. The only precedent for them is Chernobyl, where a big percentage of children are still suffering from various diseases and lacking in physical strength.
Because of lack of reliable instructions or information from authorities, they had to start their attempt from scratch.
We will not forget the terrible things that happened. But if we need hope it will start only from people's solidarity. You can find out about it in this film.
*Hitomi Kamanaka—a Japanese documentary filmmaker and media activist who has been working on nuclear power and radiation issues for two decades.
