Together with you, we will create a joined-up approach to highlight where change needs to happen and to provide opportunities to collaborate with your peers. 62% of the respondents to our last survey indicated their interest in being part of this network.

2Mapping exercise to identify researcher and community engagement in Derry & Strabane
As a community or voluntary organisation in the Derry & Strabane area, if you are involved in any research or initiative with Ulster University – we need your help!
Ulster University, North West Community Network and Developing Healthy Communities have partnered to run a project to address systematic challenges community groups and researchers face when working together.
The project will see the University and community partners set up a joint community research and innovation collective. The collective is undertaking a mapping exercise to establish a comprehensive picture of university and researcher and community partnership initiatives, taking place between Ulster University and the Derry & Strabane community and voluntary sector.
Following the mapping exercise, the collective will hold a series of events to showcase existing work and develop opportunities to foster new collaborative projects. Watch this space!

Applications for Apex’s Community Spirit Grants are now being accepted from individual tenants, community groups and non-profit organisations. Individual Apex tenants can apply for up to £250 to deliver a programme that will bring their community together or address an issue that has been highlighted by tenants.
Community groups and non-profit organisations can apply for grants of up to £500 towards providing assistance and support to communities in which Apex tenants live.
All applicants will be provided with guidance notes for making an application and the criteria that will be used to assess applications.

Derry City and Strabane District Council is set to partner with the Ulster-Scots Agency to host a week-long programme of events to celebrate Ulster-Scots Language Week or Leid Week which runs from 20 – 24 November 2023.
The Council is now inviting proposals for events and activities which, if selected, will form part of our Ulster-Scots Language Week programme later in the year. The Council welcomes proposals for events and activities which raise awareness of the Ulster-Scots language in creative and engaging ways and hopes to build on the success of previous years’ programmes which included music, poetry, drama, the spoken word and short film.
Applicants may apply for a maximum grant of £250 to support the development and delivery of each event or activity, and prospective applicants are required to complete a short proposal form available to download from the Council website: https://www.derrystrabane.com/services/ulster-scots/call-for-proposals. Completed proposal forms should be returned by 12 noon on Friday 15 September 2023.

12T:BUC Engagement Forum – The Good Friday Agreement, 25 years on
The next Together: Building a United Community (T:BUC) Engagement Forum will be taking place on Tuesday 19th September during Good Relations Week, at the Ebrington Hotel, Derry City, at 9.30am.
This T:BUC Engagement Forum will explore some aspects of the outworking from the Good Friday Agreement and its impact delivering good relations and a sustainable legacy by investing in regeneration. The event will be hosted by Tim McGarry and will include a panel discussion and presentations on the role of, for example, shared housing and regeneration. This Engagement Forum will provide us with the opportunity to look forward at what is being done as well as explore what can/is still being done.
For the first time ever the Engagement Forum will be extended into the afternoon.
Participants can choose an option from a series of afternoon sessions. These include:
• Whistle stop tour of community-based GR projects within Derry city;
• A tour of the Ebrington site and Peace Bridge and the development it has experienced; or
• Networking opportunity with a range of participating groups and organisations alongside fringe presentations, exploring a range of topics including social value.

During the event, we will hear from a number of organisations working with schools on various diversity and equality focused themes, including CRAIC NI, Community Relations in Schools, Cara-Friend, Solás and the Council for Integrated Education. Brief case studies will also be shared by different schools to reflect on how diversity is celebrated within their school communities. Our event will be chaired by Peter Osborne (Chair, Integrated Education Fund).
'Together' | tenx9 storytelling event Thursday 21 September 2023 7.30-9.30pm The Nerve Centre, Derry/Londonderry
We are again linking up with tenx9 to organise a story telling event in Derry~Londonderry, this time on the theme ‘Together’ and as part of the 2023 Good Relations Week.
Tenx9 is a storytelling event where nine people have up to ten minutes each to tell a true story from their own life.
We are now inviting submissions of true stories for this event on anything related to the theme ‘Together’. Opportunities and Challenges for Schools and Communities along the Border Monday 25 September 2023 1PM-3PM Farnham Estate, Cavan
Over the past year, a research team at Ulster University’s School of Education have completed a project funded through the International Fund for Ireland’s Communities in Partnership Programme (supported by the Integrated Education Fund and Educate Together). Throughout this process, the UU team have engaged with a wide range of stakeholders from different border communities including local residents and political, statutory and community representatives. We hope you can join us to hear more about the research and its findings on the opportunities and challenges facing primary schools and communities on either side of the border.
Please note that this is a hybrid event and you can choose to attend in-person or online (a meeting link will be circulated to those who've registered closer to the time).
A light lunch and refreshments will be provided for those attending in person.
The Talk Together Project, in collaboration with Ulster University, looked at the impact of loss and bereavement on people with a learning disability and autistic people, their families and support network in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. The project was carried out over a year with workshops and interviews with members of local learning disability and autism organisations, family members and professionals. One of the recommendations from the report was to look at how to better support staff around loss and bereavement so they could better support their service users. We were delighted when The Ideas Fund agreed to further fund us to design and deliver a training programme for support staff.
The training will be held in November and December with limited places for each date. Each session will last 2.5 hours and participants only need to attend one session.

19 Northern Ireland Screen Academies: Animation Academy 2023/4
Applications for the Screen Academies Animation Academy 2023/4 are now open.

This is suitable for pupils 16-19 (as long as they are 16-19 on the first day of the Academies 07/10/23 they can apply) who may wish to apply for a place this year.
Our participants over the course of the Academy get a full breakdown of how animation is approached & conducted on an industry level, with masterclasses, animation studio visits and practical advice on their own animation projects from our industry mentors.
We welcome young animators whether they have animated before or not, and indeed whether they are currently studying MIA or not. (If you have gifted students presently not studying MIA but just have an interest in learning more about Animation they too will be most welcome!)
For our Derry~Londonderry Animation Academy We have changed the Academy delivery this year to a mixture of Online and in person delivery.
Online: Thursday evenings will be online only so they can attend online from home.
In Person: Practical in person sessions to compliment these Online sessions will be taking place on selected Saturdays from mid October through to February with our resident Animators. (All dates are set out in the application form below)

You are invited to enter our short story and poetry competition for Culture Night 2023.
The theme is culture: if you look out your window and think about if you could travel to a place or country, home or away, where would you go? What would you eat? Who would you meet? Write a short story (500 words max) or poem to tell us about your experience.
For children and young people aged 7-13 years old. Entries will be part of an exhibition with open mic readings in Verbal on Culture Night - Friday 22nd September 2023, 5-7pm. There will also be prizes for the winners.
