1 Delivering Change in a Shifting Landscape: Future challenges and opportunities for the VCSE and its partners
Building Change Trust invites you to an event on Wednesday 10 May 2017 at the Junction, Derry/Londonderry at 9.30am
Supported by Holywell Trust and North West Community Network
In a climate of great uncertainty faced by voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations (VCSE) not least due to political instability, Brexit, and continued austerity, organisations, groups and volunteers continue to strive to deliver positive social change for the individuals and communities they work with.
This event is one of a number of engagements being held by Building Change Trust across Northern Ireland between February and June 2017 as part of its VCSE Futures initiative.
Throughout the initiative we are engaging with the sector itself, funders and policy makers, to hear their views.
The purpose of this 10 May event is to hear views from VCSE groups and organisations in the North West on current challenges and possible opportunities, and to attempt to answer the following questions:
To create an enabling environment that delivers the best outcomes for the people and places your organisation, works with:
-
What action does the sector itself need to take?
-
What action does the public sector need to take?
-
What action do funders need to take?
We invite you to arrive at 9.30am for tea/coffee & scones for a 10.00am start
The event will finish at 1pm.

15 "Rerun Brexit Vote in N.Ireland?"
Would you like to Vote again in the Brexit Vote? With the arrival of the National Theatre to N.Ireland to premier its ground-breaking production in collaboration with The Playhouse, “My Country”, every night there will be a rerun of the Brexit Vote at our Brexit Polling Station, to see how people’s views might have changed. How will it compare to the last time to the result in Foyle (21.7% to leave), N.Ireland (44.2% to leave) or the UK Vote (51.9% to leave)? Results will be announced the following day on Social Media.
The National Theatre, working in collaboration with The Playhouse in Derry, is coming to N.Ireland with a new ground-breaking production focused on one of the most divisive topics of recent years, Brexit. The new play by Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate, and director of the National Theatre, Rufus Norris has been called a ‘Massive Listening Project’. The play has only one date in Northern Ireland and is being brought to The Playhouse stage for one week only, from the 4th April. In the days following the Brexit vote, a team from across the UK made up of 10 writers and theatre directors including The Playhouse spoke to people nationwide, aged 9 to 97, to hear their views on the country we call home. In a series of deeply personal interviews, they heard opinions that were honest, emotional, funny, and sometimes extreme. My Country puts their words centre stage, verbatim.
Niall Mc Caughan, Chief Executive of The Playhouse stated: "We are delighted once again to be working with the National Theatre in N.Ireland. It's not surprising that the project has already received a lot of national coverage including in the last week, a piece on the Channel 4 News as well as in the Guardian. As part of this theatrical highlight of the year in N.Ireland which focuses on one of the biggest upsets in political history in a generation, we will have a rerun of the Brexit Vote, using one of the Polling Booth kindly supplied by Pakflatt in this city, who supplied the actual booths for the Brexit Vote. It will be interesting to see if views have changed?”
My Country open in The Playhouse on Tuesday 4th, Thursday 6th – Saturday 8th April, Box Office:

16 The Redvolution is coming! Be part of it!
#Redvolution is coming! Be part of it!
‘Redhead300’ is looking for YOU! Join us!
'Red-y' to support us? We need YOU!
A fundraising walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, ‘Redhead300’, will leave from the Guildhall, Derry on Saturday 5th August 2017 and finish 300 miles later in Crosshaven, County Cork - home of the Irish Red Head Convention - on Friday 18th August 2017.
So if you:
- are looking for something a little different this year?
- fancy your very own ‘ultimate’ challenge?
- feel the need to test your limits of endurance?
- like the idea of taking in some beautiful countryside?
- raising some money for a worthy cause appeal to you?
Then join why not think about joining the:
#TheTeamof3
Our aim is to raise at least €5,000 for the Irish Cancer Society in support of the on-going efforts of Irish Red Head Convention, which has raised over €30,000 for The Irish Cancer Society since 2010.
Covering an average of 22 mile/37km each day you’ll belong to the very prestigious #TheTeamof3 passing through towns and villages the length of Ireland. By saying 'YES' you’ll complete our search for the final member of our esteemed team and in doing so you’ll join two other ‘Crazy Charitable Crusaders’ who plan to stretch their legs in August.
#GuestWalker
Now, if 300 miles sounds a little overwhelming then why not consider walking with us on one of fourteen stages that make up 'Redhead300'.
Each day two different ‘Guest Walkers’ will set off with the #TheTeamof3. To secure the esteemed title of #GuestWalker you will raise €250.
Of course you can raise more if you want but this is what we're asking all Guest Walkers to contribute. If we get two Guest Walkers each day we'll easily exceed our target of €5000.
#Redvolutionary
If being a member of #TheTeamof3 or a #GuestWalker seems daunting then why not become a #Redvolutionary by joining us en route from a place of your choosing. For each kilometre you complete you will donate €5.
Support 'Redhead300' in other ways
You can also support ‘Redhead300’ in other ways. You can make a donation at our Just Giving Page or become a ‘Local Liaison’ (download the ‘Redhead300’ leaflet) and not only help raise awareness of ‘Redhead300’ in your area but provide important local knowledge or put us in touch with people who can support us.
