1 PHA Short-Term Funding Programme 2022-2023 

Making Life Better Through Short-Term Funding Programme

The Public Health Agency (PHA) have identified funding to address Health and Wellbeing in Northern Ireland. The short term funding will support a range of strategic themes and priorities including:

  • 'Making Life Better' (Public health framework) priorities (view here)
  • Protect Life 2 - Suicide Prevention Strategy (view here)
  • Mental Health, Emotional Well-being, Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm

The PHA are inviting community and voluntary sector organisations, through the Clear Project, to apply for non-recurring short term funding to address the outlined themes.

Two types of awards are available under this scheme.

  1. Award one funding of up to £1,000 that non-constituted and constituted non-profit taking Community / Voluntary Sector groups can apply for.
  2. Award two funding of between £1,001 and to a maximum of £5,000 for constituted, non-profit taking Community / Voluntary sector groups.

2 Good Relations Week 2022 Funding

Good Relations Week will run from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th September and local community groups, voluntary organisations, representative groups, statutory bodies, businesses are all encouraged to get involved.  The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘‘Change Starts With Us’, delivering a programme of events that focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to highlight the political, social, economic, and environmental challenges we face as a region.

As appropriate, it would be great if you could consider hosting an event to support #GRW22 and in addition, if you could share details of #GRW22 with colleagues, key stakeholders and partners, encouraging their support.

This funding is now open for applications for up to £500 per group/organisation.

4 Branching Out Fund

The Tree Council have announced the re-opening of Branching Out fund in July 2022.

Schools, community groups, parish and town councils, and tree warden networks can apply for between £300 and £1,500.

 7 Future Innovators Project - FINAL CHANCE TO SIGN UP

Future Innovators would be a great opportunity for any staff, volunteers or community members with an interest in social innovation or social enterprise, who want to develop their business and entrepreneurial skills, or for those who have an idea for a community project that would create social change in their area.

Do you have an idea or business plan that might help improve your community?
Future Innovators can help make it a reality.

We will be providing four full days of bespoke training to help community groups and individuals realise social innovations and enterprises that will have the potential to bring growth and sustainability to their communities 

Our FREE four day training programme will cover subjects such as:
Project Planning, goal setting, motivation, business plans, grants and revenue, marketing, communications and presentation skills.
Attending this training will provide you the opportunity to apply for up to £8,000 in funding for your project or business idea and will also help you access further supports.

Future Innovators training will take place on:
30th June, 1st July, 7th & 8th September
Travel and accommodation expenses for attending the training will be covered.

8 Free ASIST Training for Community & Voluntary Organisations

Please note that this training will be delivered Face to Face  
(Not available online)

  • Aim: ASIST is a two-day intensive, interactive, and practice-dominated course designed to help caregivers recognise risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.
  • Content:
    • Connecting – sensitize participants to their own attitudes towards suicide
    • Understanding – focuses on providing participants with the knowledge and skills to recognise risk and develop safeplans.  
    • Assisting – presents a model of effective suicide intervention.  
    • Networking – generates information about resources in the local community.
  • For Whom: This workshop is a gatekeeper program suitable for mental health professionals, social workers, counsellors, ambulance staff, community volunteers, etc.
  • Method: Participants develop their skills through observation, supervised simulations experiences and role play in large and small groups

It is required that participants attend suicide awareness training
 e.g., safeTALK, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) or Connections Training prior to attending this workshop.

Course Title: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Salary: NJC Scale SO2 Pt 26-28 (£30,451 - £32,234) + 6% Employer’s pension contribution
Working Hours: 35 hours per week

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Community Development & Health Network (CDHN) team and play a vital influencing role in ending health inequalities. The post holder will support and contribute to CDHN’s vision to create a fairer, more equal society where people’s lives, health and wellbeing are improved. We do this by sharing what we learn from our community programmes and research projects and collaborating with others to make a difference.

The Policy Officer will produce relevant work to inform evidence-based policy making at all levels of government to create change. This will include:
  • Keeping up to date with the latest policy and research and develop policy documents and the identification, analysis and summary of policies, strategies and evidence on health inequalities and the social determinants of health
  • Engaging our members and communities to build skills and knowledge in the development of public policy and strategy
  • Responding to consultations on public policy and strategy, in a proactive and inclusive way
  • Raising awareness, at all levels of decision making, of the importance of addressing the social determinants of health to tackle inequality and improve health and wellbeing.
Reporting to the Research & Policy Manager, the Policy Officer will support the influencing and evidence building work of CDHN, in line with its core Strategic Aims. They will have a proactive approach and be comfortable working with delegated responsibility.  Strong written and verbal communication skills, an understanding of Government and decision-making structures in NI and highly developed organisational skills are essential.

16 Echo Echo Dance Summer Scheme
Only a few places left on our Summer Scheme starting next week 4th - 8th July!

Join experienced professionals of Echo Echo Ensemble for a week of dance and movement for primary school ages! The course will run from 10am-1pm daily in our studios on Magazine Street. It is suitable for kids aged 5-11 (the youngest should at least complete P1). In our kind and playful environment kids will spend time dancing, playing, storytelling and engaging in arts and crafts. We would love to see you!

Eden Place Arts Centre's Summer Students Exhibition will be on display at Eden Place Arts Centre From Monday 27th -Wednesday 29th June from 10am-6pm. 

Call in and view the spectacular work created throughout this term. 

Eden Place Arts Centre will close on Thursday 30th June for the summer. 
We hope to see you again in September.
