1 Launch of Elevate Community Mentoring & Grants Programme

CDHN is delighted to announce the 2022-23 round of the PHA-funded Elevate Community Mentoring and Grants programme.  The programme supports groups who are in need of mentoring and who can benefit from funding (up to £5,000) to deliver a project which uses community development to tackle health inequalities. The closing date for applications is 4:00pm on Monday 29 August 2022.

This year, we will consider all applications, and particularly welcome applications from groups who are in local areas with previously low uptake (Lisburn and Castlereagh, Antrim and Newtownabbey, Omagh, Lisanelly and Crossmaglen areas) and groups who support people from LGBTQIA+, BAME, and other under-represented groups.

If you would like to find out more, we are holding a face-to-face information session on Tuesday 9th August from 2pm to 3pm at Laganview Enterprise Centre, Lisburn  and an online session on Wednesday 17th August on Zoom.

3  Statisticians for Society: Meet the Statistician - data support for the third sector

Statisticians for Society aims to connect professional statisticians with third sector organisations that need help collecting, analysing and presenting data. It is free and open to charities and other third sector organisations with an annual income of less than £1million. You can read case studies from some organisations that have already benefitted from the service.
 
Statisticians for Society are holding a drop-in online session for organisations in need of statistical expertise called ‘Meet the Statisticians: data support for the third sector’. The event will be held on 
Thursday 22 September 2022 from 10am – 1pm and Monday 26 September 2022 from 1pm – 4pm.
 
This is a great opportunity for charities and other third sector organisations to get expert help from our team in identifying the data support they need, formulating potential solutions and, securing a statistician to tackle them. It is also suitable for anyone who is unsure of the data support they need but wants guidance and support in using data and evidence for decision making.

4 NICVA seeks V&C Sector nominations for the Government & Voluntary Sector Joint Forum
 
 

NICVA is currently seeking nominations from the voluntary and community sector to represent the sector on the Joint Government Voluntary and Community Sector Forum (Joint Forum).

This current recruitment round is to fill a recent vacancy on the Voluntary Community Sector (VCS) Panel and to create a reserve list of voluntary and community sector candidates, should further vacancies arise over this current Joint Forum Term.

What is the Joint Forum? The Joint Forum between the Government and the Voluntary and Community Sector NI commonly known as the Joint Forum is made up of representatives from central and local government (Public Sector Group) and the voluntary and community sector (Voluntary and Community Sector Panel) in NI. It facilitates an open discussion about the relationship between the two sectors.

In partnership these two groupings are charged with taking forward the Joint Forums current Work Plan and helping establish its future focus and direction.

The Joint Forum is supported by NICVA and the Voluntary and Community Division in the Department for Communities (DfC).

5 Call for EoI's for BFI delivery partners for National Lottery-funded documentary fund and talent support programme

 

We are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from potential UK partners who, from April 2023, can run a National Lottery-funded documentary fund and talent support programme.

EOIs can be submitted by a single organisation or by one organisation on behalf of a partnership or joint leadership arrangement.

The process to appoint a UK partner has two stages. This call for EOIs is the first stage. The second stage will be an invitation to submit a detailed application.

  • You must submit a completed EOI by the deadline if you want us to consider inviting your organisation to submit an application
  • Second stage applications will only be accepted from invited organisations

If your organisation is not for profit, has a passion for documentary, the scale to deliver a UK-wide initiative, and past success in managing funding programmes, financing documentary feature films and developing filmmaking talent, we want to hear from you.

The new BFI 10-year strategy will be published in autumn 2022. Following a consultation with public and industry on the draft strategic priorities (published in April 2022), we know that our National Lottery strategy will include support for documentary filmmaking. Issuing this EOI call ahead of launch starts the process in order to be ready to deliver this work from April 2023.

The deadline for Expressions of Interest is 5pm Friday 12 August 2022.

6 Eden Project Community Camps - Apply Now!

Community Camp is an immersive learning experience, offering a mix of practical activities, workshop sessions and networking opportunities for people from across the UK.

Our Community Camps take place either face to face at the Eden Project in Cornwall or online and dates for 2022 and 2023 have been announced! 

We have four Community Camps coming up between now and March 2023, two of these are face to face camps at the Eden Project and two of them will take place online. These are:

  • Face to Face Eden Project Community Camp: Friday 30th September – Monday 3rd October 2022
  • Online Community Camp:  Monday 7th, Thursday 10th, Monday 14th, Thursday 17th and Monday 21st November 2022 (all sessions 6.30 – 9pm)
  • Online Community Camp:  Monday 30th January, Thursday 2nd February, Monday 6th, Thursday 9th and Monday 13th  February 2023 (all sessions 6.30 – 9pm)

8 Developing Health Communities - 30ᵗʰ anniversary events - Two dates for your diary

In 2022 Developing Healthy Communities celebrates its 30th anniversary and we want our birthday celebrations to be an opportunity to talk, think and learn about the most pressing health issues and biggest opportunities facing us right now.  Between World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September) and World Mental Health Day (10 October) we will hold a series of 30th anniversary events for our friends and colleagues in the community, statutory and enterprise sectors.

Focussing on early intervention and prevention within mental health in the Western Area

Early intervention has to be at the center of effective long term mental health provision. Carving out a space to look beyond crisis response, we are bringing together statutory and community voices to join the dots between current provision, best practice and emerging need in the Western Trust area.

9  Elevate Training - new dates released!

CDHN are delighted to offer free Elevate training on using community development approaches to reduce health inequalities.

These interactive training workshops will explore topics such as the social determinants of health, poverty and health, the impact of Covid-19, community development values and how community development approaches can be used to reduce health inequalities. Elevate training will highlight the importance of meaningful engagement with communities where you live and work.

All our sessions are open and interdisciplinary allowing for discussion based learning with good opportunities to build connections across sectors.

Dates are as follows and sessions run from 10am to 1pm and 1:30pm to 3:30pm.  Participants must be available to attend both sessions.

10 Sexual Harassment Online Training

Nexus is the lead charity agency in Northern Ireland supporting people affected by sexual abuse and trauma.

In this 3hr workshop, we want to introduce the topic of sexual harassment which we find is massively underreported. There are many reasons why people do not report sexual harassment, one is that they are not aware what sexual harassment is.

The aim of this workshop is to help raise awareness and education in our society about sexual harassment and help victims & survivors speak out - #breakthesilence.

In this Online Awareness Workshop on Sexual Harassment it will cover:

  • Definition of sexual harassment
  • Different types of sexual harassment
  • Effects of sexual harassment
  • Reporting
  • Support Services

11 Face to Face Fun and interactive Free Visual Awareness Training

Delivered by two experienced facilitators, both living with sight loss, this training will raise your awareness of visual impairments and give you the skills to interact effectively with blind or partially sighted people.

13 St. Columb's Hall Curated Tours

As part of People, Places, Events - Our Shared Heritage project, local citizens are hosting free, specially curated guided tours of St. Columb's Hall. The tours include stories that have shaped the diverse and rich history of the hall over the last century.

This project is delivered in partnership with Holywell Trust, St. Columb's Hall and Cooperation Ireland - supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The tours are free to attend, though places are limited - please register in advance.

Tours take place on Friday 19th August at 10am, 12pm & 2pm.

A lead role at the Waterside Women's Centre. This is a job-share position delivering the services offered including educational and vocational courses, supporting women of all ages in activities by securing funding to operate and deliver services.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Centre. You will have experience leading a team, delivering the strategic aims of the Centre, working with funders to continue to provide courses and opportunities for women and children using the Centre.  We have an on-site creche which supports the programmes we offer by providing childcare for our activities and the women participating in them.

17 Competition launched for independent members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board

Justice Minister Naomi Long has launched a recruitment competition to appoint six independent members to the Northern Ireland Policing Board (NIPB): three members will be appointed from 1 December 2022; and three members from 1 April 2023. The terms are for four years.

The NIPB, which includes ten political members and nine independent members, is responsible for ensuring the provision of an effective, efficient, impartial and accountable police service in NI, and for holding the Chief Constable to account for the exercise of his functions and those of the police.

Board members will be required to commit to a minimum of four days per month to Policing Board business and be required to perform a representative role on behalf of the Board at a variety of events.  Remuneration is £15k per annum. 

The deadline for receipt of applications is 12:00 noon on Thursday, 18 August 2022.

18 Carnival of Colours

In Your Space Circus (IYSC) are bringing their flagship circus, arts and music festival, Carnival of Colours, back to Derry city centre on Saturday 6th and Sunday August 7th from 1-6pm.

The programme for the weekend will be jam-packed with circus-themed treats featuring the very best of International Street Theatre, IYSC’s own walkabout characters and performances, circus workshops, arts and crafts, graffiti arts demos and an exciting programme of music from the Nerve Centre.

The headline shows will include acrobatics, juggling, clowning, comedy, physical theatre and some crazy dance moves thrown in for good measure.

Acts will include TeaTime Company, Granny Turismo, Frankie Magilligan and Cikada Circus.
Incredible local artists will also be showcasing their talents and bringing a weekend of pure joy to the people of the North-West and visitors to the city.

The Festival will be taking place between Guildhall Square, Waterloo Place, Foyle Embankment and the Peace Garden.

14th - 18th September 2022

'Tradition and Beyond' is a five day festival focusing on dance performance work by artists rooted in traditional Irish dance practices, who are investigating the roles and possibilities of these roots in relation to contemporary practice in dance, movement, theatre and music. 

Produced in partnership with Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and SiamsaTíre.

20 RFR Residency at Void Gallery, Derry

09 - 28 August


REWIND<<FASTFORWARD>>RECORD (RFR) will take up a three-week residency at the Void Gallery, Derry. Through a series of workshops and tours, the RFR project will explore the history of Foyle Pride and LGBTQ+ activism in Derry. 

Working with local community groups and artists, RFR will introduce participants to the 'Games For Artists and Non-Artists (GFANA)' workshop methodologies to create new artworks that will be installed as part of RFR's evolving and expanding exhibition to coincide with Foyle Pride 2022.

During this time the RFR team will also work closely with the Rainbow Project, taking inspiration from an unofficial archive of found photographs and collected newspaper clippings documenting Foyle Pride over the decades
