1 North West Community Network Membership 2017-18

As planning continues on a full and varied programme of activity for 2017-18 the Network invites all Community & Voluntary sector groups in the North West to renew membership and continue benefiting from the range of supports, information and leadership these activities have long provided.

There is also the option to nominate towards the incoming Network Executive Committee at the next Annual General Meeting.

a) guide the future strategic priorities of NWCN and reinforce its strengths
b) inform a developing programme of activity on the skills development needs of the C&V sector in the North West - no more than 5 minutes of your time is required.

The Grow It Award is for social entrepreneurs looking to scale their venture providing tailored support, access to workshops and networks, and up to £15,000 cash.

About you:

• You have identified a social issue and developed a business model that works to solve it
• You have already achieved a compelling performance in your venture
• You are committed to delivering local, regional or national social impact at scale and have a track record of creating social impact.
• You are experienced, ambitious and capable of growing your venture
• You have a realistic growth plan to scale nationally or internationally
• You are committed to working full time in your social venture

About your venture:

• Your venture is ideally less than 5 years old
• Your venture is dynamic and has been running for at least one year
• Your venture is ready to grow to local, regional or national scale and has a logical and appropriate plan to deliver this
• You have a compelling performance to date and/or a logical and appropriate plan for rapid growth to reach local, regional or national scale
• Your principle objective for the year ahead is not to secure (significant) investment
• Your venture targets beneficiaries predominantly based in the UK

3.  Spaces for Change – Opening: 3^rd July 2017

For 16-24 year olds up to £5,000 Cash Award & Support

Spaces for Change (S4C) is a UK wide programme that will find, fund, support and connect young people aged 16-24 to start and run social ventures that unlock the potential of unused or under-utilised spaces for the benefit of the local community, especially other young people.

Awards will be available for young leaders consisting of up to £5,000 project funding, a dedicated award manager providing tailored support, cohort support, and peer to peer networking opportunities for sharing knowledge and learning.

Young people aged 18 – 24 will also have the opportunity to crowd fund alongside their award with support from Spacehive. This will enable the young person to demonstrate tangible support from the local community for their idea, learn valuable skills, as well as increasing the chances of sustainability of the social venture.

Eligibility

• Be between the age of 16-24
• If over 18 be willing to crowdfund a minimum of £100 via Spacehive to support the sustainability of social venture
• Live in the UK
• Have an idea for a social venture that will unlock the potential benefits of unused or under-utilised spaces for the local community, especially other young people
• Apply as an individual or an informal group of up to four people (with groups only the lead will complete the application form, the lead will also be responsible for the award)
• Fulfil a clear demand and need, with clear outputs and goals

Foyle Hospice working with the Integrated Care Partnership, Caw Nelson Drive Action Group and Hillcrest Trust have established a Compassionate Communities Project in the local community.  The project uses a public health/community development approach to palliative and end of life care encouraging compassionate capacity through:

• Encouraging community engagement
• Reach Out – a network of volunteers who provide companionship and support to people who are living at home with advanced illness and to those who care for them

Foyle Hospice require a Volunteer Coordinator to ensure the effective recruitment, training, support and matching of volunteers involved in the project.  S/he will be educated to A Level standard, with experience of delivering training, experience of managing volunteers, good organisational and communication skills, excellent IT skills and a team player. Salary will be on Agenda for Change Band 4 (£19,026-22,236 pro rata).

Description

Development and prosperity of any society depends on the involvement and participation of individuals. Thus, every individual should have the same rights, opportunities and spaces to get involved and to be heard. This should in line with equality of chances for articulation and involvement. However, everywhere in Europe we face scarcity of these conditions.

There is a strong need of change-makers and youth work specifically who can professionally work against structural discrimination and under-representation of marginalized groups. There is a need of educators and youth workers who can foster participation of marginalized youth and support them to develop their capacities for engagement. Marginalization, lack of participation and discrimination are strongly connected to societal habits and education. This means we have the ability to change them the same way they have been created. Promoting acquisition of skills, knowledge and attitudes regarding diversity and inclusion among youth workers, educators and trainers is essential in order to shape better societies where all individuals have the same rights and same spaces to express themselves.

LTTC "Managing Diversity: A Training for Youth Workers" aims to support 26 youth workers, educators and youth trainers from Programme Countries  as well as and Partner countries in development of their diversity management skills and in learning how to implement a culture of diversity in their working environments by increasing diversity-oriented awareness in their work with young people.

The LTTC has the following main objectives: 

• To empower 26 youth workers, trainers and educators to develop diversity orientation in their work with young people and build their competence in diversity management;
• To support youth workers in incorporation of diversity into their working environment, thus, making their work more inclusive and effective;
• To promote diversity-oriented attitudes and awareness within the European programs in the fields of Education, Training and Youth;
• To introduce key theoretical aspects, the glossary as well as the practical tools, methods and instruments to the youth workers who seek to implement the concept of diversity in their work;
• To discuss how the European Youth Work can reinforce equality and ensure that diverse groups of people get equal treatment during trainings, seminars as well as other formal and non-formal educational settings;

Venues and dates:                            

- 12-19 August (including travel days): Ommen, the Netherlands;

- 6-14 October (including travel days): Yerevan, Armenia

NOTE! The selected trainer has to work both for the Traning in the Netherlands and in Armenia.

Requested trainer profile

Priority will be given to those that most closely meet these criteria:

• Have knowledge on the topics covered by the training (diversity, inclusion, diversity management, work with marginalized youth);
• Have a previous experience on the topics covered by this training;
• Are willing to collaborate and work for the benefit of the project;
• Are proficient users of the English language;
• Are available for both Training Courses in the Netherlands and in Armenia.

Main Responsibilities

• To have regular online meetings with other trainers and the project coordinator in order to plan the training;
• To develop the learning curricula and the framework of the entire program;
• To develop the latest version of the daily program at least 10 days before the training;
• To develop the relevant session outlines at least 10 days before the training;
• To be present at the training and implement the tasks in a collective way;
• To have a daily evaluation with the project coordinator during the training;
• To prepare a final report which needs to be submitted to the project coordinator latest 3 weeks after the training;
• Senior trainers need to provide support to the junior trainer and work on development of their skills during the preparation and in the training, providing them with relevant learning experience.

Finances:

• JUB & APY offer a fee of 150 euro per day (for the training in the Netherlands: 7 working days * 150 = 1050 euro, for the training in Armenia 8 working days * 150 euro = 1200 euro). Total fee = 2250 euro.
• JUB & APY will cover your stay 100%, including accommodation, food and working materials;
• 100% of all travel costs (door to door, cheapest way, until the limits below) will be reimbursed afterwards, after receiving all relevant receipts, including boarding passes;
• Visa costs can be reimbursed. 

Team composition

The team consists of two senior trainers and one junior trainer. Together they form the team, with two persons responsible for logistics.

La Dolce Vita Project - Workshop Dates July 2017

These one day Workshops are aimed at raising your awareness, educating you on the impact and contributing factors of domestic abuse. How you can help to plan your own safety or someone you are supporting.

Knowledge and understanding of the documents required as part of a personal safety plan. Who is required to be involved to support you, your safety and your children e.g.: solicitors, family, friends, work colleagues, PSNI, Social Media Safety& Home Safety.

Understanding of the real life impact domestic abuse can have on a persons self esteem to include understanding your self image, negative self - talk, beliefs of self. Implementing of strategies to help cope with the aftermath of the trauma related to domestic abuse.

Week 1:

Safety planning while living or leaving an abusive environment. Tuesday 11th July 2017, 12 - 4pm.

Week 2:

Domestic Abuse Awareness - Financial - Sexual - Psychological - Emotional - Physical.

Tuesday 18th July 2017, 10 - 2pm.

Week 3: 

Domestic abuse and the Impact on Your Self Esteem.

Tuesday 25th July 2017, 1-  2pm.

A FUSION OF CULTURE

This event is a celebration of Arabic, Irish and African Culture within our city.

18  Childline Foyle

ChildLine Foyle are in need of volunteers to give up their time to listen to the children and young people who contact the service for support. However, demand is so high that we can’t answer every call. But could you help us change that by becoming a volunteer counsellor, switchboarder or email counsellor?

No previous experience is needed, as full training and support is provided by staff here at the base. Volunteers will gain worthwhile communication skills and experience of working in a team environment whilst also making a huge difference to those who contact us.
