1Mapping exercise to identify researcher and community engagement in Derry & Strabane
As a community or voluntary organisation in the Derry & Strabane area, if you are involved in any research or initiative with Ulster University – we need your help!
Ulster University, North West Community Network and Developing Healthy Communities have partnered to run a project to address systematic challenges community groups and researchers face when working together.
The project will see the University and community partners set up a joint community research and innovation collective. The collective is undertaking a mapping exercise to establish a comprehensive picture of university and researcher and community partnership initiatives, taking place between Ulster University and the Derry & Strabane community and voluntary sector.
Following the mapping exercise, the collective will hold a series of events to showcase existing work and develop opportunities to foster new collaborative projects. Watch this space!
If you are involved in any research or initiative with Ulster University (current or ended in the previous 12 months) we would greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete this FORM as best you can
We award grants to those charities that are able to demonstrate quantifiable outcomes to beneficiaries. Typically, grants of up to £5,000 are regularly made and occasional larger sums are given to charities where high impact can be achieved. Similarly, smaller charities often benefit from smaller grants of £250 upwards.
Applications should be received in good time before each Trustee meeting and at least 6 weeks before the meeting date. The next meeting is: 08 November 2023
Further information and application available here
Grants for Good invites local charities, voluntary groups or social enterprises that have an average annual income of less than £50,000 to apply to them for funding.
Your application must be on behalf of a local community group, charity, voluntary group or social enterprise that has a positive impact on communities, people or the environment.
We want to make it easy for very small charities or new community interest companies to apply, so organisations/groups do not need to be a registered charity, however, you will need to have a bank account in your organisation’s/project’s name such as a community bank account.
We don’t want small charities to be intimidated by lengthy forms to complete – so we’ve kept the online application form straightforward.
Deadline: 15 September 2023
Further information and application available here

This could be a research project to help understand how the issues are connected, a campaign to redistribute devices, a project to fix old devices to be used by more people, or a project that aims to tackle the root causes of these problems. We want to hear from you.

Digital Voice is the name of our new home phone service. Digital calls are made over our broadband network, rather than the old analogue network, which has been around for more than 40 years and is becoming increasingly unreliable, energy hungry and can’t give our customers the world-class service we want to provide. Switching to Digital Voice will give our customers clearer call quality and help prevent the majority of scam calls. The good news is, the landline isn’t going away, it’s just being upgraded. For most customers, the upgrade will be as simple as connecting their home phone handset to a router rather than the phone socket on the wall. The migration to Digital Voice must take place for all customers by December 2025.
As part of this programme, BT are carrying out a series of Regional Engagement initiatives to support people through the move from the current line to digital voice. This will include some “roadshow” style events where we bring BT to the regions to ensure everyone is as informed as possible and has the chance to ask any questions they might have.
Locally there is a large event planned for Derry, and there are plans to run smaller pop-up style events in libraries throughout the region. This will be held on 26th September from 10am-3pm at Foyle Arena, 2 Limavady Road, BT47 6JY. We will also have a branded BT Demo van which will be active throughout the country in September.
For further information please contact Geraint James, Engagement Manager, Digital Voice on 0331 622 1238 or email Geraint.James@ee.co.uk
