Belinda Quirke - sound performance
Saturday 18 February, 6pm
Visitors are invited to listen during this performance by artist Belinda Quirke. Quirke has made a sonic piece inspired by the exhibition at Void by Isabel Nolan.
1:1
I explore the universal geometric foundation, and nature of sound through experimentation with electronic sound materials. Every vibrating object emits a sound, a magnetic wave that travels, resonates, reflects, and is often absorbed by other bodies. The space between, how we listen, where we listen, and what we hear, is ultimately individually experiential, and species dependent.
The Greek mathematician, philosopher, and cult leader, Pythagoras’(ca. 570 to ca. 490 BCE) calculation of ratios on an ancient monochord and geometric form, exist in both in the natural and synthetic worlds. The geometric interpretation of those same mathematic principles are relayed in the triangular, ten point form of the Tectractys, and the Pythagorean theory of Musica Mundana, in which each planet creates an inaudible sound in a perfectly ordered heavenly scale. Manipulated voice, vintage Juno 6 Synthesiser and stylophone. combine palindromic medieval systems and inverted Tectractys structures in construction.
Please note that, due to space restrictions, one parent per child is advised. Parents or guardians are welcome to take other children along but they will be asked to remain seated in the gallery foyer or they can visit the exhibition.
We also ask that the attending parent please ensure both adult and child are wearing old clothes! We provide large shirts for parents to put over their clothes and we also have a large bathroom with changing facilities if you need to change clothes for baby and parent afterwards.

The Things that People Say....Political Quotations from the Northern Ireland Peace Process
.
On 10th April, the Good Friday Agreement will be 25 years old. In 2008, Fergal Barr made his own contribution to learning about the peace process in Northern Ireland by publishing 'The Things People Say, Quotations from the Northern Ireland Peace Process,' a reflection piece on those momentous years leading up to the signing of the agreement.
To mark the occasion, and to celebrate 25 years, he's selling copies from limited stock at 25% off RRP - £7.50 including P & P (within UK) and £10.10 (€11.50) to the EU. Here's a sneak preview of some of the quotes. Twenty-five years on how much has really changed? You can judge for yourself.
