1 Unscheduled Care in Western Trust area - Your experience, views and suggestions

North West Community Network has been commissioned by the Western Local Commissioning Group (LCG) to conduct Community Engagement around the area of Unscheduled Care.
Unscheduled Care basically refers to when someone accesses health and social care services unexpectedly. This can occur at any time and crosses the traditional boundaries between general practitioner (GP), community and hospital services and means there must be a 24 hour service available.
Across the Western Trust area, over 1000 surveys will be completed by the end of March 2017 and then analysed to determine what changes or priorities need to be considered in the shaping and commissioning of future services.
You can decide to complete the survey yourself, share it with friends and family, colleagues and service users. The value and analysis of responses will be greatly improved if you can include answers on Age, Gender and Post Code so you are kindly asked to record these.

4 Bakers Donate
Bakers Donate is a newly formed collaboration of individually registered and insured bakers around the UK and Ireland, currently 56 members and growing. The idea is bakers make a little extra at Christmas than their regular orders and the goods are donated to organisations to be distributed to those who need them and perhaps wouldn’t normally have the luxury of a cake or some home baked treats that can make Christmas so special.
We appreciate there are needs year-round and lots of organisation do great things to help. Unfortunately, we are not able to help year-round, therefor we have chosen Christmas to try and make a little difference. Each baker will donate in their own area, so at this point we are not sure of amounts or variety we will have in each area. As founding member, I hope this initiative will be successful and build year on year.
If you are part of a community organisation or charity which distributes to others at Christmas and are interested in receiving some baked goods to distribute please contact me via email initially so I can register your interest and answer any questions.

5 Pain Toolkit - Half-day workshop for People Living with Pain
Almost 400,000 people in Northern Ireland live with a chronic long-term pain condition such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, musculoskeletal problems or endometriosis. Many find their conditions disabling and frustrating to manage and find it can affect their relationships with family, friends and work colleagues.
The Health and Social Care Board is organising a Pain Toolkit workshop on 9 February 2017 from 1.00 pm–5.00pm at the Everglades Hotel, Derry/Londonderry to provide people who suffer from chronic pain conditions with some extra skills to better manage their conditions. Self-management skills can help people to cope better with pain.
The workshops will be run by Pete Moore, co-author of the Pain Toolkit www.paintoolkit.org who himself has persistent pain and says it is possible to live a full life in spite of this. Places at these workshops are limited and those interested in attending are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

6 Community Places - Free Planning Advice Session
Community Places continues its free planning advice sessions for people and community groups in the Holywell DiverseCity Community Partnership, Bishop Street, Derry~Londonderry on the first Wednesday of each month.
The next one is on Wednesday, 1 February 2017 and the drop in session runs from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm.
Our staff can provide independent advice on all kinds of planning issues in towns, rural areas and villages. We can also provide advice on how to object to a planning application, how Derry City and Strabane District Council’s planning department deals with development that is built without planning permission and information on the planning system.
There is no need to make an appointment. If you are not able to drop into the advice session, we can provide planning advice by telephone (9023 9444) or you can also contact us by email (info@communityplaces.info).
Community Places is an independent charity which provides free planning advice to people and communities who cannot afford private consultants.

12 Callout for Participants for St Patrick's Day Spring Carnival Parade 2017
Forever Young is a new work by North West Carnival Initiative created for the St Patrick's Day Spring Carnival Parade 2017. It will feature a moving performance through the city streets featuring over 300 costumed performers, music, movement, dance, circus and street performers.
We are seeking participants from all over the city and district to join with our artists and facilitators to help bring this vision to life though art, dance, drama, and movement.

St Columb’s Park House (SCPH) are seeking expressions of interest from experienced and competent service providers who may be interested in the catering license at St Columb’s Park House. This license includes the café and provision of catering for centre users and residential groups.
St Columb’s Park House (SCPH) opened in 1994 as a peace centre offering a safe neutral venue including conference and residential facilities. We host a range of outreach projects that animate communities and individuals to work together towards a fair, peaceful society where every individual feels valued and can make a positive difference.
The café is a core element of our vision as we want to work in partnership with the catering provider for mutual benefit and to maximise the potential for this beautiful and unique space and the vision of heart in the park.
We do recognise that this partnership approach is different to a traditional catering tenant situation so we invite partners who are open to exploring new ideas and helping us to bring alive the space on a daily basis and involve people from all walks of life in our vision.

14 LID+ Services now operational & Invite to Tender for 'LID+' Impact Report
Funded by the European Commission (through its representation in London) The Inside Out Programme in Claudy, Northern Ireland is delighted to announce the arrival of ‘LID+’, a year-long a programme of activity that should appeal to young people, young leaders, youth workers and other practitioners (with a remit for young people) based in the UK who are interested in developing an application to the Erasmus+ programme in 2017.
The project will work specifically to target (i) those interested in Volunteering Abroad (ii) taking part in Youth Exchanges and (iii) or developing other Key Action1 Mobility Projects including planning meetings, training programmes and seminars.
This free bespoke service is now available to organisations (primarily) across Northern Ireland but also the UK and includes:

Website, Information Sessions and regular Information Bulletins;

‘Listening’, Feedback, Mentoring and ‘One-to-One’ services delivered by a panel of UK-wide ‘E+ Ambassadors’ to support and nurture the development of applications;

Development Workshops specifically designed to work with young people aged 13+;
-
International Learning Opportunities and a Contact Making Seminar bringing experienced and non-experienced Erasmus+ users together;
-
‘Live International Network’ to support the development of local proposals from potential applications to ‘submission-ready applications’;

‘Market Place’ bringing groups together to mark the 30th Anniversary of Youth in Action/Erasmus+
The programme is based on the work that Inside Out has been doing over the last number of years promoting access to and participation in the Youth in Action and Erasmus + programmes (at least 180 individuals have participated in more than 80 programmes across 20 countries or more since April 2008) through The LID (Leadership through Intercultural Dialogue) Programme.

21 The Compassionate Friends - Support for Bereaved Parents
About Us:
The Compassionate Friends N.I is a registered charity supporting bereaved parents through the grief of losing a child.
No one expects their child or children to die before they do, yet sadly this happens each year to hundreds of families.
We are open to all parents whose son or daughter has died, regardless of age or cause. If you have lost a child we are here to help and support you.
We offer you understanding, support and the opportunity to share experiences and feelings with other bereaved parents in a safe and caring environment.
These services are provided by trained volunteers who are all bereaved parents or siblings
What we can offer:
A confidential helpline is available every day throughout the year from 10am - 4pm and from 7pm to 9:30pm

The Outreach Team:
Offer parents throughout Northern Ireland support, guidance and sign posting.
If required our support workers will arrange to meet you at a suitable venue or in your own home.
We also offer a range of workshops on grief and traumatic loss, a range of publications and leaflets are available for bereaved parents and their families and an annual remembrance service is held each year on the 1st Sunday in December to remember our loved ones.
