1 Joint Forum seeks new voluntary and community sector reps
The Joint Forum is comprised of representatives from across government and the voluntary and community sector. It facilitates an open discussion about the relationship between the two sectors.
The Joint Forum meets three times a year to promote constructive dialogue and propose ways forward to tackle the challenges faced by both the voluntary and community sector and public sector. The voluntary and community sector group also meets three times a year independently from the public sector group ahead of each full meeting.
The role of a VCS Joint Forum member
The VCS group is made up of 15 representatives from the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland. A member will be expected to attend the Joint Forum three times per year and the VCG meeting prior to each full Joint Forum meeting in order to represent the issues pertinent to their particular sub-sector.
A member will be required to disseminate information about the work of the Joint Forum and VCG within their own sub-sector. A member will also be required to proactively seek input to the forum from their sub-sector, particularly on cross-cutting issues.
Nomination process
NICVA is now inviting organisations and groups working within the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland to nominate persons to be considered for selection for the Joint Forum. Please note the nomination process is open to all members of the voluntary and community sector. The new sector reps will be chosen by a sub group of the NICVA Executive Committee using the criteria attached.
Applications close on Friday 13 March 2020 at 4pm. Applicants will be notified by Friday 27 March 2020.
You'll find more information on this initiative, as well as the selection criteria here.

3 After Brexit: The Scope and Limitations of the Common Travel Area
A North-South roundtable discussion comparing Common Travel Area provisions with the rights retained under the UK’s EU Withdrawal Agreement.
2.30pm, Friday 28 February 2020 Unison/Migrant Centre NI, The Old Church, Clarendon Street, Derry
Much has been made of the protections offered by the Common Travel Area (CTA) following the UK’s exit from the European Union, but is it enough to plug the gaps post-Brexit? Facilitated by CAJ, this roundtable discussion will bring together leading experts from across the island of Ireland to discuss the reality of the CTA and the issues that may arise post-Brexit. The protections offered by the CTA will be contrasted against those provided for within the UK’s EU Withdrawal Agreement.
The event will discuss two core themes: freedom of movement and the Common Travel Area; and reciprocal rights and the Common Travel Area. Discussions will be chaired by Professor Colin Harvey (QUB) with introductory remarks from Equality Coalition Co-Convener Daniel Holder (CAJ).
Please email una@caj.org.uk to register, stating any access or dietary requirements.
