2Elevate Community Mentoring and Grants programme 23-24
The Public Health Agency (PHA) – funded Elevate Community Mentoring and Grants programme 2023-24 is NOW OPEN. The programme supports groups who could benefit from mentoring and funding (up to £5,000) to deliver a project which uses community development to tackle health inequalities.
The closing date for applications is 4:00pm on Monday 28th August 2023.
This year, we will consider all applications, and particularly welcome applications from groups who are in local areas with previously low uptake (Lisburn and Castlereagh, Antrim and Newtownabbey, Lisanelly Omagh and Crossmaglen areas) and groups who support people from LGBTQIA+, BAME, and other under-represented groups.
3 St Stephen's Green Trust: Family Matters Grant Programme 22-25
SSGT believes putting families at the heart of the criminal justice system and processes is the ‘golden thread’ which can reduce the harm of imprisonment and contribute to rehabilitation. Therefore, a strategic aim of SSGT is to contribute to improving the system of support for families affected by convictions and imprisonment to improve rehabilitation and resettlement outcomes.
Evidence shows that prisoners who manage to maintain family bonds whilst in prison have significantly reduced reoffending risks upon release. Families cannot bear this burden alone and should be supported in this role. However, SSGT acknowledges family relationships are complex and systems should take account of the best interests of both the family and the prisoner.
The grant programme has two funding strands which will support work across the island.
In Strand 1, groups can apply for one-year grants of up to €7,000/£6,000 for work which tests new approaches, adds value to current family support work and develops pathways to knowledge and learning around how to improve the situation for families.
Strand 2 will fund groups – up to €25,000/£21,500 pa for one to three years which are working strategically towards the programme outcomes outlined on our website.
We strongly encourage potential applicants to talk to us in advance of making an application – a short email outlining the project activities (in three or four paragraphs) should be emailed to orla@ssgt.ie and we will arrange to telephone you to discuss it.
Following the recent completion of the Playing Pitch Strategy, Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Sports Committee has invested in a new Maintenance Fund that will provide financial assistance towards clubs who own and maintain their facilities and in particular playing pitches.
The aim of the fund is to provide financial assistance to ensure that clubs have the opportunity to maintain their playing surface to the highest level, therefore enabling greater usage on a more regular basis. Any financial assistance must be associated with maintenance of the playing surface or fixed asset that is integral towards the delivery of the sport.
Applicants will apply using the Council's online grant portal https://dcsdcgrantaid.com/ and applications should be submitted by 3.00pm on Friday 25th August 2023.
5 Civic Innovation Fund: Call for civic innovation projects 23-24
We are happy to announce the first call for projects for our Civic Innovation Fund (CIF), a unique European pooled fund aimed at pioneering new ideas in civil society.
Young civic educators and NGOs have an opportunity to apply for the CIFfunding and get a chance to make their project come true! Within CIF support, each project receives between €10,000-12,000 for piloting, incubation and scaling up for the period of 12 months.

Apex Housing Association has announced it will award a bursary worth up to £18,000 to two individuals currently working in the field of community development in Derry~Londonderry or Dungannon.
Supported by the ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme, the successful candidates will begin a community development course at Ulster University in September 2023. The course duration is flexible, with candidates completing between one and four years of study. A condition of the bursary will be the promotion of good relations outcomes in their ongoing community work.

Together the Health Improvement Equality and Involvement Dept, Infant Feeding Leads and Breastfeeding Champions are promoting a number of events. The events are taking place trust wide to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2023 and are in partnership with a number of organisations across the community and voluntary sector. Breastfeeding families welcome as well as expectant parents hoping to learn more about breastfeeding.

Working towards the Sustainable Development Goals and reducing health inequalities are strategic priorities in Northern Ireland and Ireland. This conference aims to provide an opportunity for knowledge exchange on what works, what doesn’t work, and what could work better when it comes to addressing health inequalities at a local and national level.
We particularly welcome abstract submissions from those working to improve the health of people living in areas of social and economic disadvantage or working directly with underprivileged or marginalised communities.
Abstract submissions from within and outside of the island of Ireland are welcomed. Examples of work may include, but are not limited to, academic research, community-based projects / practice, health service programmes, participatory health research, public patient involvement (PPI), policy analysis or review, and public health interventions or evaluations.
Abstract submissions will be considered for 10-minute oral presentations or 3-minute oral presentations.

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way From The 12th" is a short comedy which tells the story of what happens when five people meet at a bus stop on the afternoon of the 12th August. With the sound of the annual Relief of Londonderry echoing around the old city, the five characters begin to chat and explore significance of the parade to all sections of the community.
As part of The Maiden City Festival, the play is travelling to community venues across the council area. The play is followed by an discussion around the issues raised in the play and seeks to promote good relations around the festival.
The play is being staged Outdoor @ Enagh Crescent at 3pm on Wednesday 3rd August.
