North West Community Network is inviting you to a meeting with local MLA’s to discuss the impact of funding cuts on the community and voluntary sector. 

Despite continuing to provide frontline support services during the pandemic and cost of living crisis, we are the first sector which suffers when government cuts are being made. As a representative organisation of the community sector in the Derry City and Strabane area we are calling on all of our members and representatives of the community and voluntary sector to come together to amplify our voices.

We are asking you to attend from 10:00 so that we can agree our questions from the floor.  MLA’s will meet with us from 11:00.

2 The Cooper Richardson Fund

Jack Cooper and his son-in-law Paul Richardson both died in 2022. This fund was set up by their family to honour Jack and Paul and the generous nature that they shared. They also shared a love of sport.

Applicants can apply for a grant ranging from £1,000 to £2,000.

Priorities:
• To improve access to sport and physical activity, with a particular focus on supporting facilities in areas of economic need and for those most isolated in communities
• To improve the health and well-being of people in Northern Ireland
• To provide funding for resources, including equipment for small organisations, who may have limited access to funding opportunities
• To remove barriers for getting things done in communities

3  Climate Action Fund - Energy and Climate

This funding aims to inspire and support communities across the UK to address the energy and climate crisis. We’re looking for projects that show how communities can address climate change while tackling the energy challenges through community-led climate action.

All projects should consider how everyone in the community can get involved with climate action. They must also address any reasons why some people might be left out.

We’re looking for projects that will bring a range of benefits to communities, including:
• improving health and well-being
• creating local ’green’ jobs, such as jobs providing low -carbon heat for homes, community energy champions and energy advisors
• reducing carbon emissions
• supporting communities to be more resilient

Application deadline You can apply when you’re ready. We expect the programme to remain open until at least December 2023 but it will depend on when and how many others apply for our funding.

4 Digital funding for small charities

Improving your digital presence can be transformational, but it’s really tough to secure funding in this area. The Fat Beehive Foundation exists to change that, offering small grants of up to £2,500 to charities with a turnover of less than £400,000.

Every year, the Fat Beehive agency allocates a portion of its profits to the foundation, to make sure that small charities across the UK have the opportunity to expand their reach and change more lives for the better.

The first step for prospective applicants is to check your eligibility via our eligibility quiz and then, if appropriate, apply online. We consider applications on a rolling basis considering eligible grants at our quarterly trustee meetings (April, July, October and January) and will notify successful applicants shortly after.

5 Rural Action Awards 2023/2024

We are delighted to announce the return of the Rural Action Awards for 2023/2024.  Again, this year, the Awards offer rural community-based organisations in Northern Ireland or the border region of Ireland the opportunity to apply for and secure £1000 or €1000 towards their volunteer led community action project.

Our Rural Action Awards scheme for this year will again support up to 12 volunteer led community action projects up to March 2024.  As before, the scheme is open to constituted rural community-based organisations including charities, not for profit community groups, sporting and cultural organisations, heritage groups, Parent Teacher Associations, youth groups/clubs and social enterprises.  The scheme seeks to support practical, tangible and timebound projects where the project must complete within 12 weeks.

8 A New Fundraising Opportunity For Your Charity

Raise Money For Your Charity At The Worlds First Hydrobikeathon 2023
Enniskillen - Fermanagh
8-9 September 2023

This event is the first to its kind in the world and is open to all charities to enter.
Charity Supporters are always looking for new and innovative ways to raise funds. The Hydrobikeathon is the perfect opportunity to raise new funds.

We have a criteria for entry which will be used to select participants, as we have a limited number of hydrobikes for the event.  In particular we will be looking for entries that can clearly demonstrate who their chosen charity is, community involvement and fundraising targets. 

The entry fee for participation in the event is £200, this fee will be donated in full by Erne Adventures to the Cancer Fund For Children. 

Entry deadline is 19^th June 2023

YOGA
Online Yoga is back! There will be a focus on breathing techniques for stress reduction and enhancing fertility. The yoga postures are all suitable for trying to conceive. However, fertility yoga is NOT suitable for pregnancy – including early pregnancy following a positive pregnancy test.
The classes are held on a Tuesday evening starting on Tuesday 13^th June at 7.30pm.

1. Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Fibroids and Fertility for Ethnic Minority groups- Dispelling the Myths with Mr James Nicopoullos.

This webinar will be held tomorrow, 31^st May at 7pm and will include an information session as well as an opportunity for Q and A. The speaker, Mr James Nicopoullos, is the Medical Director and Sub-specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery and a Consultant Gynaecologist at The Lister Hospital. The webinar will highlight the untruths, the facts and the impact these conditions have on fertility for women from ethnic minority communities. 12 Charity Commission NI Competition

The Department for Communities has launched a competition for the appointment of a Commissioner with Accountancy Qualifications and Experience to the Board of the Charity Commission NI.

The Charity Commission is the independent regulator of charities in Northern Ireland, and the Commission plays a key role in their development. The charity sector supports and provides vital services to the people of Northern Ireland, with charities ranging from small local groups, to those that operate nationally and internationally

Applications are sought for the position of a Commissioner with an accountancy qualification and related experience to the Commission’s Board. This individual will provide a specific skill-set to the Board whilst also making a significant contribution to the charitable sector, particularly in helping to drive forward change arising out of the Independent Review of Charity Regulation.
