The UK government is providing an additional £220 million funding through the UK Community Renewal Fund to help local areas prepare for the launch of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in 2022.
This Fund aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot programmes and new approaches and will invest in skills, community and place, local business, and supporting people into employment.

2Good Relations Week Funding Now Opened For Applications
Good Relations Week 2021 will run from Monday 20th to Sunday 26th September 2021 and it will re-introduce a programme of face-to-face events, alongside an expanded virtual offering in the largest showcase of cross community and multi-cultural arts, history, music and culture. The theme for this year’s showcase is ‘Brighter Days Ahead’ as it celebrates the efforts of young people in their everyday lives to break down barriers and unite communities.
It will explore many of the challenges today’s youth are facing including sectarianism and racism, cultural diversity, isolation, mental health, education, employment and the environment, and acting as a catalyst for change. This year’s blended programme of face-to-face and virtual events will include workshops, lectures, discussion panels, podcasts, storytelling and personal testimonies, exhibitions, music and theatre performances, archive video and new short films and lots more.
This funding is now opened for applications for up to £500 per group/organisation.
3 Culture Night 21 Derry Strabane - call for programming & small awards
Derry City and Strabane District will join cities and towns across Ireland to celebrate Culture Night on Friday 17th September 2021
Culture Night is a night of entertainment, activity, discovery and adventure and across 35 towns, cities and counties in Ireland when Arts and Cultural organisations open their doors until late with hundreds of inspiring and imaginative free events, tours, talks and performances for people to enjoy.
In Derry City and Strabane District, Culture Night is chiefly programmed by our arts and cultural sector with council facilitating delivery and providing marketing support.
The event presents an opportunity to showcase and develop new relationships between cultural providers and audiences.
Derry City and Strabane District Council are seeking partnership involvement in programme delivery. If you feel that your organisation can run an event, put on entertainment, organise late-night opening of an attraction or premises, or provide street entertainment on Friday 17th September between 5pm – 11pm ( in keeping with the times of the regional campaign), please get in touch to be part of a collective presentation alongside fellow arts and cultural venues, artists and organisations.
While the costs of programming are largely met by venues and organisations themselves, in 2021 DCSDC have made available some small awards to support the costs of programming of indoor and outdoor delivery.
In 2021 council also hope to provide additional on-street animation linking venues and creating atmosphere as audiences move around over the evening.

Tesco Community Grants support local good causes that focus on helping children and families and tackling food poverty.
Examples of eligible applications with a focus on supporting children and families could be;
a local school needing food for a children’s breakfast club,
a voluntary organisation working with families to run holiday clubs,
a charity supporting young people with specialist advice to manage mental health,
a brownie or scout group needing new tents,
or a youth sports club needing new equipment,
a family advice centre wanting to recruit more volunteers,
or a local friends of a park group wanting to develop a new toddler area.
Awards: Awards are available up to £1,500.

Pebbles is our small funding stream for UK registered charities and recognised churches which are raising money for projects where the total cost is less than £150,000. This money can be spent on short breaks (such as an annual respite break or holiday for disadvantaged young people), equipment (such as white goods), or capital costs (building work or refurbishment).
Pebble grant applications are processed on a rolling basis. It can take up to 3 months for a decision and payment to be made. Grants are awarded on a discretionary basis; the Rank Foundation’s contribution ranges from £250 up to and including £4,000, depending on the total cost of the project.
Applications now re-open for the Co-op Community Fridge fund!
We‘re thrilled to announce that we have re-opened our Community Fridge fund with Co-op to support 100 groups all across the UK to establish a new Community Fridge project.
This opportunity includes £4,000 funding to help cover project costs, along with full support, guidance and resources from Hubbub to help successfully establish your fridge.
Once set up, groups will be part of the 250 member strong Community Fridge Network which helps redistribute surplus food from businesses and households within the community, saving it from going to waste and bringing people together. Anyone and everyone can share and gift from a Community Fridge.

The Health and Social Care Board are looking for people who work or volunteer for a community or voluntary sector organisation with a health and well-being remit to join their local Integrated Care Partnership Committee.
Integrated Care Partnerships (ICPs) are groups which help to connect people who are working together to better understand and improve the health and wellbeing of their local communities to bring about positive outcomes and new ways of working in preventative health care, to address the wider social determinants of health.
There is extensive work in the Health and Social sector to look at the future planning model which will likely be focused on collaborative and place-based approaches building on the work of ICPs. This is an exciting and important time to be part of an ICP and therefore we continue to welcome applications for Third Sector vacancies on ICP Committees.

8New Leadership Series of Courses from Volunteer Now
When we launched our new Training Schedule in April, we included a new Leadership Series, consisting of 4 different but complimentary sessions. Each session covers a different topic regarding leadership of an organisation, programme or project.
Leadership & Why It Matters examines the difference between management and leadership, why leadership matters and what can be most difficult and challenging about leadership.
Thinking of Myself as a Leader explores communication styles (your own and that of others), conformity and why it matters when leading.
Leadership & Working with Teams looks at how to get the best from your teams and how to effectively manage change.
The last session – Leadership & Dealing with Conflict – examines leadership styles and theories, the principles of conflict management, recognizing the real problem and dealing with it through active listening and support and supervision.
The next round of leadership sessions is scheduled for September – details below. The four sessions can be taken individually but as they compliment each other, why not think about attending all four?

Bowel Cancer UK deliver bowel cancer awareness talks to workplaces and community groups. Due to the Covid-19 situation, we're now offering these talks online over Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
Why we need to build awareness
Bowel cancer is currently the third most common cancer in Northern Ireland and the second biggest cancer killer. More than 1,100 people in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with bowel cancer each year, and almost 450 people die annually from the disease.
However, it doesn't have to be this way, as bowel cancer is treatable and curable, especially when caught early. That's why we're dedicated to raising awareness through our volunteer-led awareness programme.
What will be in the talk?
Our volunteers will deliver a 30-minute virtual presentation and highlight the following key awareness messages:
signs and symptoms – learn the most common symptoms of bowel cancer
risks – gain an awareness of the risk factors associated with bowel cancer
bowel screening – learn about the NHS bowel screening programme and the importance of taking part
Our volunteers will also be happy to answer any questions you might have. Very often, they have had personal experience of bowel cancer, and therefore have a great deal of knowledge and wisdom to share.

Germ Defencegives practical advice to reduce the spread of infection in the home. It is based on scientific evidence. It helps people think through and adopt better home hygiene habits and find ways to solve any barriers. This is especially important with the emergence of new variants of Coronavirus that spread more quickly and easily.
After around 10 minutes answering questions online, Germ Defence offers tailored advice to fit personal circumstances.
A research study with 20,000 people found:
People who read the advice in Germ Defence are less likely to catch viruses
If they do become ill, the illness is likely to be less severe
The trial showed that people who used Germ Defence advice got fewer and less severe infections, and so did the people they live with.
We believe that the Germ Defence website (updated for COVID-19) will help prevent infections, including coronavirus infections. We believe then that it could help save lives by reducing the spread of the virus.
By reducing the number of infections and use of health care services, it could stop the HSC being overwhelmed at its busiest time.

Now in its 29th year, Gasyard Wall Féile is Derry’s biggest community arts and cultural organization.
The Volunteer Investment project was set up by Féile in 2006 to engage and recruit Volunteers through an Active Citizen programme, Participants are supported through learning pathways and on the job training and work experience, in roles associated with event organisation / management, stewarding, health and safety, production/stage management. The Project Co-ordinator will be responsible for the development and implementation of Gasyard Wall Feile’s Volunteer Investment Project both on an operational and strategic level.

14‘Body Wisdom’ Digital Dance and Movement Programme Launched for the Over 50s
by Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company
As part of Echo Echo’s summer long Digital Programme, the Derry based dance-theatre company, is releasing a free online course in dance and movement for over 50s. This course of 8 sessions is for anyone who is interested in dance and movement and offers a relaxed and gentle exploration of how to move in a more poetic way. The course is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and is led by highly experienced Echo Echo Ensemble member, Kelly Quigley.
The course starts from the perspective that the wisdom you have gained from life resides within your cells and is waiting to be accessed for the purpose of dancing and creating dancing.
The course is an extension of Echo Echo’s popular Body Wisdom class for 50 years+, which has been running for over 10 years. If you enjoy the digital programme, why not get in contact with Echo Echo to try out their new ‘in person’ Body Wisdom programme which will be starting this September and is open to new members in their state-of-the-art dance studios on Magazine Street.
A regular Body Wisdom Participant says:
