Derry City and Strabane District Council are inviting local community groups to apply to grant aid to support Sports and Community programmes.
Applications for the Grant Aid Programmes for 2023/24 opened this week and include the Community Support Fund, Good Relations Funding FOR Core/Project Strategic (Youth), Sports and PCSP.
Deadline for submission of applications
Applicants should use the online portal https://www.dcsdcgrantaid.com/ for submissions and are reminded that the deadline is 3.00 p.m. on Friday, 3rde February.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their application early as this deadline is absolute. Please do not wait until near the closing time to submit your application. Under no circumstances will an application be deemed eligible after the 3:00p.m. deadline.
2Grants to help communities tackle food & the climate & nature emergency
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to any UK local food partnership, local authority or community group.
New grants have been launched by Sustain as part of the Food for the Planet project. The grants aim to support communities to campaign and advocate to make food in their area better for people and the planet. Applicants are encouraged to propose their own ideas for great local action, but should focus on areas that have a big impact locally, for example:
Supporting groups and communities that are marginalised to campaign for food climate justice and tackling racial injustice in the food system
Encouraging climate-friendly food in public institutions and council settings
Supporting sustainable farming systems through planning policy
Tackling unfair and unhelpful pricing and advertising of the most climate-damaging foods

5FREE Training Sessions from January to March 2023!
Volunteer Now are delighted to deliver an interesting series of webinars to kickstart 2023! With thanks to the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland, these webinars will encourage the Voluntary Sector to consider new approaches, ideas and allow networking and shared learning.
We kick off the series on 24 January 2023 with ‘Volunteering 2023’ with guest speaker Rob Jackson. A new year means new challenges and opportunities for volunteer professionals. Rob will share his thoughts on what 2023 may hold for volunteering and discuss what you may need to do to survive and thrive in 2023.
The next FREE session in the series is ‘Digitally Aware, Wise & Resilient’ on 8 February 2023 with Dr Deborah Webster. This session will discuss the risks of the online space for children and young people, the impact that social media can have on their wellbeing and mental health and how we can support them to become more digitally aware, wise and resilient.
Volunteer Now are also delivering a new range of FREE Capacity Building training courses online, for groups based in the Belfast City Council area. These sessions will be running through January to March 2023.

We can provide 2 x 2hr sessions over a 4-week period that include:

Sessions can be provided face to face at your premises. If required we can discuss a blended approach to include zoom. This service is available to groups across Northern Ireland in the community.

Genocide is facilitated by ordinary people. Ordinary people turn a blind eye, believe propaganda, join murderous regimes. And those who are persecuted, oppressed and murdered in genocide aren’t persecuted because of crimes they’ve committed – they are persecuted simply because they are ordinary people who belong to a particular group (eg, Roma, Jewish community, Tutsi).
The NSPCC has launched the new campaign, so adults know what to do if they’re concerned about a child. The campaign will encourage people to take an engaging, free ten-minute digital training followed by a series of emails from experts with actions people can take to help keep children safe.
The NSPCC believes that abuse and neglect are preventable and that everyone can play their part in keeping children safe – and that is why the charity is launching Listen up, Speak up | NSPCC . This is a pilot phase, and in the long-term, the NSPCC’s ambition is to reach at least a million people in communities and organisations across the UK to equip them with practical advice and confidence to know what to do and who to speak to if they're concerned a child might be experiencing or is at risk of abuse or neglect. Those that sign up to Listen up Speak up will initially take a 10-minute digital training session that uses scenarios - a father concerned about messages his son is receiving, a hairdresser that notices bruises on a child and a friend worried about a new parent – to show people what to do if they think a child is in trouble.
The advice is based on the mnemonicDOTS which is designed to address the barriers to people acting on concerns.

Wednesday 25th January is ‘Burn’s Night’ - a famous night in Scottish and Ulster Scots Culture. To mark the occasion Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Good Relations team in conjunction with Bready and District Ulster Scots Development Association are offering a Free Event on Friday 27th January 2023 at the Sollus Centre, Bready, Co. Tyrone . The event will begin at 12.30pm and should finished by 2.00pm. If there is enough demand transport can be provided.

The Department for the Economy will be advertising an open competition on 19 & 20 January 2023 to recruit a new Chair and 8 Members to the Board of Northern Ireland Skills Council (NISC), with effect from 30 April 2023.
The NISC is a new advisory body, providing strategic advice to Ministers of the Northern Ireland Executive, and government departments, on issues pertaining to the development of skills policy to meet the objectives of the Programme for Government, the economic vision for Northern Ireland ‘10x Economy: Northern Ireland’s Decade of Innovation’ and the Skills Strategy, ‘Skills for a 10x Economy’.
The rate of remuneration for the Chair is currently £4,656.00 per annum (based on 16 days’ work per year), and for a Council member £1,788.00 per annum (based on 12 days per annum).
We particularly welcome applications from people with a disability and those from minority ethnic communities as these groups are currently under-represented on Boards. We are operating a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for applicants with a disability.
