The Acorn Giving Circle (AGC) is made up of a group of women who aim to make a positive contribution to improving the lives of people living in Derry ~ Londonderry and Strabane, in a small but meaningful way through pooled personal donations.
The fund wishes to support projects that will improve the lives of children, young people and older people through social, cultural, sporting or educational activities who live in Derry~Londonderry city and its environs, including Strabane Town.

There is a two-stage application process.
Stage 1
Letter of Enquiry, eligible charities may submit a Letter of Enquiry for consideration. Letters should be no more than two pages long and should be submitted before the deadline of Sunday 21st November. Letters must be submitted via our online grants portal and late applications will not be accepted.
Stage 2 A shortlist of charities will be invited to complete an application form. Successful charities will be notified in December.

Volunteering involving organisations have had to change what they do and how they involve volunteers to adapt to COVID restrictions. The pandemic has changed how many people think about volunteering and we need to learn lessons from the past so that we can prepare to involve volunteers in the future.
The conference will be the first opportunity to hear the findings from the UK-wide Mobilising Voluntary Action research on the impact of the pandemic on volunteering.

As a reminder about the event, the audience will hear accounts from those with real lived experience of the situation, including Sima, an Afghan Hazari doctor who has recently escaped Afghanistan and been granted refugee status in the Republic of Ireland; Sara, a recent Politics and International Relations graduate, who fled Afghanistan at the age of six and who now is the voice for many Afghans facing oppression; and Bilal, an Afghan native, who worked with coalition forces in Helmand Province as an interpreter and whose family were rescued and given a new home in Ireland following the Taliban uprising.

Food is more than food. Food is health and food is social connection. That’s why food poverty is more than hunger, it’s the depletion of one of the essential conditions for long-term health and wellbeing.
The end of the furlough scheme and the universal credit uplift has exposed many more people to the economic turbulence caused by the pandemic and tipped families and individuals who were just getting by into crisis.
Derry City & Strabane is home to a number of fantastic organisations helping both individuals in crisis and those who may be living with long term mental or physical health challenges which may have been exacerbated by periods of food poverty
At this event we want to bring together people working in the community & voluntary and statutory sectors working on food, poverty, health and wellbeing to hear about how food insecurity creates health challenges for the city and district, and why food matters so much for organisations working together to tackle economic and health inequalities.

Due to the closure and migration of the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) to a new entity within the Department of Health, many statutory provisions around commissioning will be removed, and this has provided an opportunity to fundamentally change the way in which services are planned, managed and delivered for the people of Northern Ireland. The next step is developing a Strategic Outcome Framework. These outcomes will be the driving force for planning management and delivery of services at all levels.
The development of a Strategic Outcomes Framework will enable the provision of the strategic direction to the system. It will take the form of a suite of high-level, wide ranging outcomes and accompanying indicators, and developing those strategic outcomes is the next step.
The design and development of those outcomes will necessitate the understanding of people’s health and wellbeing needs and priorities, and this is where this engagement programme fits.
This is your opportunity to design and develop these outcomes. The upcoming engagement sessions aim to capture and understand your needs and priorities through feedback, expression of concerns and lived experience.

The course is organised by Internationale Vrijwilligersprojecten. The course is scheduled to be in-person but will be subject to covid conditions and travel regulations.
Food and accommodationisprovided and a Travel Allowance of up to €275 (The Netherlands) is also available, all of which is made possible with funding from the Erasmus+ Programme.
Participants should be aged 18 and over, resident in the UK and should have proof of being double-vaccinated.
We are primarily looking to recruit a participant that is involved in the delivery and organisation of youth work.
Applications are open to one of three categories:
(i) young leaders (aged 18-30)
(ii) experienced youth work practitioners
(iii) practitioners with a remit for young people
You must be willing to actively and fully participate in the full programme and be prepared to engage in post-programme activity including any local actions that arise as a result.

Last year, in the surreal time that it was, we managed to deliver 658 dinners using the facilities of the Waterfoot Hotel; that was some feat in fairness during Lockdown; we were very moved by the kindness of our volunteers, suppliers and the general public.
This year we are pleased to welcome back our sit-in Christmas Day Dinner service for those less fortunate than ourselves. The City Hotel has kindly offered to let us use their restaurant facilities for this sit-in and we are very pleased with their generous offer. (As always we will collect our patrons and leave them home again afterwards.)
We are also doing our Christmas Day dinner direct-to-home deliveries again as in previous years, also using the facilities of the City Hotel.
We can offer a Boxing Day dinner as in past years but we ask that our agencies only request this only if it's needed please and if this is the case, we are delighted to do so.
