1  Unscheduled Care in Western Trust area - Your experience, views and suggestions

Can you spare 15 minutes of your valuable time to answer eight straightforward questions about Unscheduled Care in this part of the Western Health & Social Care Trust area?

If so please click here to begin this anonymous survey.

North West Community Network has been commissioned by the Western Local Commissioning Group (LCG) to conduct Community Engagement around the area of Unscheduled Care.

Unscheduled Care basically refers to when someone accesses health and social care services unexpectedly.  This can occur at any time and crosses the traditional boundaries between general practitioner (GP), community and hospital services and means there must be a 24 hour service available.

Across the Western Trust area, over 1000 surveys will be completed by the end of March 2017 and then analysed to determine what changes or priorities need to be considered in the shaping and commissioning of future services.

You can decide to complete the survey yourself, share it with friends and family, colleagues and service users.  The value and analysis of responses will be greatly improved if you can include answers on Age, Gender and Post Code so you are kindly asked to record these.

Your can complete this survey electronically here or, if more convenient, print and complete by hand.  It is also available on the Network's website -  www.nwcn.org

4 Derry City & Strabane District Council Community Tourism Call Expression of Interest

The Community Planning process, through stakeholder input as well as an analysis of

existing strategies and neighbourhood/ village plans, has shown that community tourism is

integral to local ambitions for community development and growth.

Visitors want to be engaged by the stories of the people and want to actively participate in

culture and community. We are therefore no longer selling visitors a ‘product’ – we are

selling them authentic experiences. Community tourism initiatives are integral to delivering

authentic experiences and meeting visitor expectations.

In advance of the development of the Local Community Plans, DCSDC have a small budget in the

current tourism development service plan and are now seeking Expression of Interests from

Community Groups to apply for a small resource to develop community tourism plans / initiatives.

The fund will support either:

  1. Delivery of a key actions in a current community tourism / cultural tourism plan  or
  2. Assist in the development of a new Community Tourism Action Plan
  3.

Projects will be supported up to a maximum of £2,000.00 and all financial spends for the proposed projects must be spent and vouched by 31st March 2017. If demand exceeds budget available then this will move to a competitive process on basis of information and schedule provided.

7  Public’s views sought for Local Development Plan (LDP) – Planning

Local people are being encouraged to give their views on a wide range of planning topics which will inform the preparation of the Local Development Plan (LDP) for the Derry City and Strabane District.

Planning officials are seeking responses on 22 key planning issues as part of the European IMPROVE project, supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council. Within N. Ireland this project is unique to DCSDC and provides an extra opportunity for citizens to engage with planning officials as the first LDP for the district is prepared. The Improve Project also includes partners from Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Donegal County Council - working together to find enhanced ways of communicating and delivering public services to citizens.

All the topics - including retailing, economics and housing - are now available for comment with a deadline of February 14 set for feedback. The final topic up for consideration is a Settlement Hierarchy Evaluation, and Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Alderman Hilary McClintock, urged people to take the opportunity to have their say.

“It is so important at these early stages that the public contributes to what will be the overarching plan for our entire City and District going forwards. The Planning team want to gauge as much as possible the feedback from local people on how the various settlements should be categorised and where the district’s development should be focussed – in a sustainable manner.”

The Settlement Evaluation is an essential part of the LDP preparation process and will inform a new settlement hierarchy for the Council area. Council will undertake a strategic review of all the existing settlements – the City, Towns, Villages and Small Settlements as identified in the current Derry Area Plan 2011 and the Strabane Area Plan 2001 - to identify their role within the proposed new hierarchy.

Chair of the Council’s Planning Committee, Councillor John Boyle, said: “We would really like to establish the thoughts of local people on this issue and across the range of planning topics to ensure the POP, and ultimately the final Plan, reflects the views of as many people here as possible.”

To find out more about the LDP process, the IMPROVE project and how to get involved, just access the link below to the Council’s LDP IMPROVE website and leave your feedback via a short series of questions on each of the planning issues important to you. http://www.derrystrabane.com/Subsites/LDP/Local-Development-Plan

8 Open Invite - Castlederg Peace IV Project

Facilitated Dialogue on ‘Creation of a shared space in Castlederg’ Peace IV Project.’

Date: Monday 13th February
Time:  11am – 1pm
Venue: Derg Valley Leisure Centre

Do you live, work or volunteer in the Castlederg area?
Derry City and Strabane District Council would like to invite all community groups, sports groups, faith based organisations, educational organisations and interested residents in the Castlederg Area to a Community Information and Consultation Session.  The session is about a Peace IV project in the town which will be rolled out over the next 3 years.  This is a vital initial planning workshop which will help us make key decisions around what the rest of the project will look like.  The agenda will include a brief background to the project planning so far and will then focus in on what local people and organisations feel should be prioritised in a cross-community action plan.  It is important that we hear views from across different sectors, interests and identities so that this is a plan which benefits everyone.  The session is also open to those who live in the rural area around Castlederg including the cross-border area.

Advance registration is not essential (you can just turn up on the day) however to help with organising the event it would be useful to drop an email to confirm attendance by Friday 11th February.  Please e-mail jonathan.henderson@derrystrabane.com   If you have any special requirements which we need to be aware of eg. disability, catering etc please feel free to let us know.

2.  1 Day Without Us- National Day of Action Feb 20th

1 Day Without Us is a National Day of Action on 20th Feb 2017 to celebrate the contribution of migrants to the UK, to coincide with UN World Day of Social Justice.

For 24 hours, we are inviting migrants from inside and outside the European Union, and everyone who supports them, to celebrate the contribution that migrants make.

Some may choose to do this symbolically, by wearing badges and lanyards, posting selfies or pictures that show your support, or putting posters in their windows. Some may wish to have a communal meal or a party with the migrants they have known as friends, colleagues, workmates and neighbours. Workers may take a five-minute silence or a mini-rally at lunchtime or tea-time.

There are also those who may wish to highlight migrant contributions to the UK in more direct ways. Some may prefer a march or a rally. Others may decide to stop work or leave their classes for ten minutes or an hour or the whole day.

There are many ways that you can take part in this day. Do what you feel able to do and what you feel is most appropriate to your situation.

Whatever your nationality and place of origin; wherever you live and work, join us and make February 20 a day of protest, solidarity and celebration.

At 1pm we are inviting all migrants and their supporters to take part in a unifying action.  Link arms and/or hold up placards. Take photos and post them on social media using our hashtag #1DayWithoutUs. We also invite you to take selfies individually before and after this action and post them with your personal messages of support using the hashtag.

We are millions. Let us stand together and show it.

Let’s reject the politics of division and hatred.

Let’s make tomorrow better than today.

21 BBC Search for female filmmakers for 'Two Minute Masterpiece'

Two Minute Masterpiece launches

The Arts Show is looking for female director/producers with a passion for Northern Ireland’s arts and culture.

A new project - Two Minute Masterpiece – is a unique opportunity for women, with some experience or involvement in film production, to have a short film commissioned and showcased on BBC platforms. There’s even a chance your film could be broadcast on a special edition of The Arts Show presented by Marie-Louise Muir.

According to research* the percentage of UK films directed exclusively by women is just under 12 per cent and females are under-represented in the industry as a whole. Two Minute Masterpiece will give five filmmakers the chance to tell their stories and have their voices heard.

To take part you should identify as female and have some experience or involvement in film production, with plenty of ideas and an interest in enhancing your skills and talents.  We are looking for short film ideas that reflect aspects of Northern Ireland’s distinctive and lively culture and arts scene. The deadline for submitting ideas is Monday 20 February  2017

Up to 10 shortlisted entrants will be invited to a mentoring session in BBC Northern Ireland - where industry professionals will give advice on how best to further develop and pitch their ideas.  Five  filmmakers will be commissioned to turn their idea into a short film with help from a mentor.

Producer/director and one of the scheme mentors, Lisa Barros D’sa said, “I was shocked to read in recent research from Directors UK that 50 per cent of women entrants into film school end up as two per cent of filmmakers at highest budget level. It's important that initiatives like this try to redress the balance. It is as important as it's ever been to empower female filmmakers to use their voices and show us the world from their many perspectives.”

All the details of the scheme and how to enter, along with terms and conditions, are available on bbc.co.uk/artsshow.
