1 2022/23 Central Good Relations Fund (CGRF) - NOW OPEN for online applications

The 2022/23 Central Good Relations Fund (CGRF) is now open for groups who wish to apply online for a project funding grant (for projects over £1,500).

Applications must be submitted online by: Thursday 13 January 2022 at 6:00pm

To access the online application portal, you must first register your organisation. However, if you registered in the last two years, you do not need to register again. Please follow the link below and enter your username and password in the ‘Local Account Login’ section to log in to the application portal.

If you have not already registered, please use the link below to register your organisation. Please note, you must register your organisation by 12:00 noon on Thursday 13 January 2022 to enable access to the online application portal. Any registrations submitted after that time will not be accepted.

  • Copies of job descriptions, if applicable (for any salary(s) being claimed).

2 Funding Opportunity - 'Illuminating the Walled City' Cultural Animation Programme

Following a successful application to Tourism NI DCSDC have an in year funding opportunity to support the delivery of a two-week long Festival of Light provisionally entitled ‘Illuminating the Walled City’ scheduled for February 2022.

The event will consist of three main elements; live illumination experiences, an intimate music programme and Cultural Animations of the Historic Walled City. This funding programme is designed to support the Cultural Animations of the Historic Walled City element of the overall event with an emphasis on commissioning family friendly arts and cultural activities. To this end Council now invite proposals from businesses, cultural organisations, artists and cultural practitioners for the creation of entertaining and engaging activities to enhance the events visitor experience.
 
The deadline for applications is Friday 7th January 2022. Instructions on how to submit your application are detailed within the documents below.

 Pilot programme for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities in NI

The National Lottery Community Fund's Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E.) Communities pilot programme is now open for applications.

Since February 2021, we have worked closely with groups and individuals from B.A.M.E. communities to co-design this pilot funding programme.

This has been an exciting opportunity for us to work together to ensure National Lottery funding supports people from B.A.M.E. communities in the challenges they face on a daily basis.

You can apply for grants of £300-£50,000 and the programme will close on 18 February 2022.

4 Open Call for Social Partners - PEACE Plus Partnership Board

DCSD Council is moving forward on the formation of the new PEACE Plus Partnership Board. Attached is the Form for the Open Call for Social Partners. Detail is in the attached form.

The deadline for the return of applications is 31st January 2022.
 
In brief, the Social Partner open call is seeking to diversify the skillset and representation on our Board by seeking individuals (who represent organisations) which meet one or more of the following:

  •   Individual (and organisation) which represents the Black and Minority Ethnic sector in our council area.
  •   Individual (and organisation) whose core work (or a strong element of their core work) is in the field of Good Relations / peace and reconciliation / dealing with the legacy of the past.
  •   Individual (and organisation) whose core work is thematic, spanning across much of the council area geographically and which represent a Section 75 group (eg. Gender, Age, Disability, LGBTQ+ etc).
  •   Individual (and organisation) whose core work is thematic, and represents a sector of specific relevance to the PEACE programme eg. Irish Language and Culture, Ulster-Scots / PUL language and Culture, Faith / Inter-faith based organisations, those most impacted by the legacy of the past, organisations in other sectors who have a significant track record of delivering peace and reconciliation work through any field of expertise.

Please note that we are running 4 processes at the same time to set up the Board:

  1. An open call for Social Partners.
  2. A process (via council) for nomination of elected members by deHondt.
  3. A process for nomination for statutory representation.
  4. A process for nomination for Local Growth Partnership representation.

In July, 2019 Derry City and Strabane became a member of UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities; a programme which promotes lifelong learning in all sectors and communities and to all ages.   Derry City and Strabane Learning City is pleased to be hosting its second lifelong learning festival in April 2022 which will be a celebration of all learning across the city and region.  
 
The festival aims to make learning accessible to all citizens and is an opportunity to showcase all the amazing learning activities / events happening across the city and region.  We are inviting community groups, individuals, workplaces, schools and colleges across the city and region to host a learning event during the festival. 
 
Any event / activity you wish to run must be FREE and open to ALL citizens.  
 
Your event can be any type of event including performances, taster sessions, tours, displays, lectures, walks, demonstrations and workshops as long as there is an element of learning attached to the event.  It can be any topic from digital skills, parenting, children’s activities, family events, business, science, art, history to health or sport.  Your event can take place online, face to face indoors or outdoors, for example, on water, in libraries, museums, colleges, resource centres, community centres, parks or in your street. 
 
We want the Derry City and Strabane Lifelong Learning Festival to offer learning for everyone, wherever you live, whatever your age and whatever your interests, we want there to be something for everyone.

6 Free Cyber Security Clinics with NICVA

Cyber Security is a key risk for organisations of all sizes. NICVA is developing a range of measures to support voluntary and community organisations that want to improve their cyber security capability. 

With support from the Northern Ireland Cyber Security Centre we can now offer 
free one-hour clinics through to March 2022.  The clinics provide an opportunity to discuss the pressing issues for your organisation around cyber security and will be followed up with an appropriate action plan based on an initial assessment.

 7 Intermediate Care Public Engagement Sessions

The Patient and Client Council (PCC), in partnership with the Department of Health are hosting an engagement event to inform you about Intermediate Care and to explore and understand your experiences.

Intermediate Care refers to a range of integrated services which promotes faster recovery from illness, prevents unnecessary hospital admissions, prevents premature admission to long term care and supports timely discharge from hospital. The aim of which is to maximise independent living and improve outcomes for patients to enable them to live the best life possible.
 
We are hosting a range of engagement events this week to provide further insight into this programme of work and to gather your views and experiences of intermediate care provision in Northern Ireland. 9  Calling Young People aged 14-18 to apply for the NW Ministry of Youth

Young people aged 14-18 years old can ‘Be the Voice’ and ‘Make Change Happen’ by becoming a member of the NW Ministry of Youth – the Youth Voice for Derry/ Londonderry and Strabane.

Applications can be made online before Monday 10th January 2022.

You may be aware that the Independent Review of Education commenced in October 2021. Further information on the Review, including its terms of reference and panel biographies, can be accessed at the Independent Review of Education website at

We are conscious that everyone may have an interest in this work. To that end we are launching a public consultation in the form of a survey for all those who wish to express their views on the current education system. This will help us in our thinking on what good education in Northern Ireland should look like and in identifying the priorities for our future work.

12 RNID Hearing Aid User Support Service

This is a socially distanced drop off and pick up service. Please follow the instructions below to help us keep everyone safe.


Hearing aids must be placed in a labelled envelope with name and contact details. They will be collected at the entrance and brought inside for maintenance.  Users can wait in their car or return later to collect hearing aids. Hearing aids can be dropped off by friends or family members.

The Department for the Economy will be advertising an open competition to recruit 7 new members to the Board of Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) on 16 and 17 December 2021.

The recruitment process involves an application form and interview process. Appointments are made on merit and applications are welcome from all sections of society.

Remuneration amounts to £12,768 per annum (under review). Following appointment, travel and subsistence expenses are payable at Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) rates.

The time commitment is approximately 3 days per month including monthly Board meetings, sub-committees, ad hoc Committee meetings, casework approval panels, and attendance at occasional evening engagements.

To help keep everyone entertained this Christmas, the Consumer Council has designed a range of free games, quizzes and activities for all to get involved with.
 
You’ll be learning about scams and consumer rights alongside our mascot, Peanut the Squirrel. Activities include snap, Pictionary and bunting making. They've been designed to have a learning element too so you may learn something new yourself!
