2 Good Governance - helping you to get it right

The Developing Governance Group has been working on revising the Code of Good Governance to make it easier for trustees to use. The revised Code is now ready for consultation with the sector and will be presented to hear your views.

Good governance is essential for the success of any organisation and is now more important than ever, especially in today’s world of increased regulation and media scrutiny.   There is a higher expectation on organisations to have good governance, not just from the regulators but also funders, and the wider public.

Recent media reports on the governance of several organisations, charities and non-charitable institutions, has shown how quick the public can be to judge a charity and it can result in harming an organisation’s reputation. Working to ensure good governance can be an effective way of enhancing and protecting your charity's reputation.

Help to improve your governance

Find out how you can use the Code of Good Governance and its resources to help you improve/maintain good governance in your organisation as well as having your say in shaping the content of the revised Principles in the Code.

To contribute to the consultation survey online please use this link:

3  Northern Irish Identity Workshops

We are a team of researchers from Newcastle University and the University of Birmingham conducting a study on citizenship and identities in Northern Ireland. Building on extensive previous research we’ve done and the interest in the idea of “Northern Irishness”, we’re holding workshops that will build an understanding of what it means to be Northern Irish. At the workshops we will explore lots of different ideas on identity so we are looking for people from any background who are prepared to discuss this. The workshops will feed into research and creative materials and you will have a say in what the most useful materials are, and how you would like them to be designed.

The workshop in Belfast will be held on Wednesday 16th October between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, or if you are based in Derry/Londonderry there will be a workshop on the 27th November between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. If neither of these locations is suitable for you but you wish to participate please email us at
PerformingIdentitiesProject@gmail.com and we will be happy to discuss other options with you.

To compensate you for your time we will offer you a £20 Amazon voucher or a £20 National Book Token. Tea, coffee and a light buffet will also be provided. We are also able to reimburse reasonable travel costs.

Our website is

We support young people to be happy, healthy and hopeful.

On the 12th October 2019 we are holding our second “Spill the Beans” event in Ebrington Square from 2pm-4pm. The event aims to raise awareness mental health working towards breaking down stigma and supporting young people to build their mental fitness and wellbeing. Spill the beans is a campaign encouraging young people to speak up to someone they can trust or someone in a position to listen. On the day we urge you to join in on all the fun and get 'dunked' in baked beans. The event is a chance for us all to take positive action, invite our nearest and dearest to come and watch and get involved whilst having lots of fun along the way.
