1 Western Trust - How the Health Service Works

NWCN are working with the Local Commissioning Group (LCG) in the Western Trust area to let people have the chance to give feedback on their experiences as a service user of the Health Service and to find out everything you need to know about how the Health Service works.   The workshop will last about an hour with a presentation followed by discussions.

A summary of the main aims of the workshop are:

  • Increase awareness of HSC services and how they work
  • Increase awareness of responsibilities and challenges within HSC
  • Increase awareness on what we can each do to choose well and seek the most appropriate support when needed

We want to hear from as many people as possible so that we can gather feedback from the north west area.

Let NWCN know if this is something that you think your group would be interested in taking part in and we can agree a suitable date.

3  NI Music Industry Mapping Project - Open Public Meeting

NI Music Industry Mapping Project

Open Public Meeting - Calling all those engaged in live music, music creation, music education and music tourism & heritage

NWRC – Level 4 Student Zone, Foyle Building
TODAY: Wednesday 27th March @ 2pm

Help Musicians NI is set to partner with Phil Nelson to map Northern Ireland’s music industry.

Never before has a region’s music infrastructure been fully mapped and joined together as a working infrastructure in order to look at how the music scene works, and where gaps and needs are in terms of skills, jobs and investment.

Help Musicians NI is now set to partner with Phil Nelson on a project to map Northern Ireland’s music industry. This work will lead to a standalone website, displaying a conceptual map of the ecosystem, showing the four categories (live music, music creation, music education and music tourism & heritage) showing all key organisations and stakeholders identified through the ‘mapping and gapping’ methodology.

The project is funded by Help Musicians UK, the UK’s leading independent musician’s charity, and coordinated through the charity’s dedicated office in NI. HMNI works to improve the industry through synergistic partnership with like-minded organisations across musical genres, and supports artists directly through our various creative funding opportunities, health and welfare offerings and industry-related learning events throughout the year.

Help Musicians NI invite you to an open public meeting to allow for a more in-depth discussion regarding the process of mapping as well as providing opportunities for feedback

6 Upcoming with Towards Understanding and Healing

The Was is Now--Complexities around forgiveness

April 2nd 2019 in the Junction Room of the Holywell Building, 10am start.

This Valued Voices/Towards Understanding and Healing event will feature scenes from 'The was is now', which explores  complexities around forgiveness.

Her:" When we lose someone we love, we should remember that the person has not become nothing. 'Somebody' cannot become 'nothing'. Forgiveness is the one true gift that victims can offer. We destroy its power as a gift by making it a duty. Someone once said to me that not forgiving is like drinking rat poison and waiting for the rat to die. But no one can force me to forgive...does not forgiving make me a bad person?"

Script:  Eddie Kerr
Actors: Bernadette McFarland and Paul O'Doherty
Performance will be followed by community dialogue
A light lunch will be provided.

To book a place please contact Kirstie Wright at kwright@thejunction-ni.org

Towards Understanding and Healing is a project supported by the European Union's PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programme Body (SEUPB).

"Guardians of the Flame”

"Guardians of the Flame”  produced by Jonny Clark, Director of Youth With A Mission Ireland and English film maker Josh Eaves of Global Fire Creative will be screened at the Holywell Building, Bishop Street on April 9th at 7 30 pm.

Producer Jonny Clark and Beryl Quigley, whose story is featured in the film,   will take part in a community conversation after the screening. To book a place, please contact Kirstie Wright at 028-71261941 or email:
kwright@thejunction-ni.org

“Guardians of The Flame” is about three individuals who have displayed inspirational courage and compassion despite great personal loss, and who continue to pursue their desire for peace and reconciliation.

Clark, who grew up in Belfast, talks to Alan McBride, whose wife Sharon and father-in-law was killed in the Shankill bomb, Eugene Reavey whose three brothers were killed in the Whitecross shooting, and Beryl Quigley whose husband, Bill McConnell, was killed by the IRA.

Others interviewed include musician and peace activist Tommy Sands and former SDLP MP Seamus Mallon who recalls visiting the Reavey family in Whitecross on the night of the massacre.

Also taking part are Padraig O’ Tuama (Corrymeela), Rev. Steve Stockman (Fitzroy Presbyterian Church) Ed Petersen ((Clonard Monastery) and Fr. Mark Ephrem (Benedictine Monastery Rostrevor).

The filmmakers took their title from a quote by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks in his book The Dignity of Difference, “Religion is like a fire and like a fire it warms but it also burns, and we are the guardians of the flame.”

10 After BREXIT: NI Strategy for a Better Environment - Key Stakeholder Event

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs is currently developing policy to support a long term Northern Ireland Environment Strategy, with a view to issuing a “call for evidence” on key environmental policy issues via public consultation by the end of April 2019.

To inform that consultation process, we are hosting a stakeholder engagement event on Tuesday 7th May 2019 from 9:30 am – 3.00 pm at the Greenmount Campus Conference Hall, 45 Tirgracy Road, Muckamore, Antrim, BT41 4PS. The Department’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Denis McMahon, will be giving the opening address and this event will give stakeholders an opportunity to discuss the main issues and provide information to assist them in responding to the call for evidence.

Confirm your attendance by email to
lisa.frazer@daera-ni.gov.uk by 15 April 2019.

The Department is very much aware of the potential for Brexit to impact stakeholders and their availability to participate in this event.  Should it prove necessary the Department will review the date of this event in order to minimise any additional pressure on stakeholders at what could prove a challenging period.
