1  The Murlough Foundation

The Murlough Foundation has been established to address issues relating to loneliness and isolation and issues around access to, and support of, education.

The foundation aims to support work where there is clear evidence of a sustained beneficial impact on people who are excluded, or disadvantaged, through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disability or gender.

Priority is to be given to small, locally based groups, or organisations in areas of disadvantage, that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community and the potential beneficiaries who are undertaking action as a means of addressing these needs.  The foundation will prioritise organisations and areas where there has been limited access to funding in the past.

Grants of up to £2,000 will be available.

4 Support the campaign to #SaveChildcareVouchers

The Childcare Voucher scheme is due to close to new entrants on 4 October 2018 following a six month extension announced in March.  If this goes ahead, expectant parents, working families not registered before then, and existing users of Childcare Vouchers who change jobs after October, will lose out on vital savings – up to £933 per parent per year.

Employers For Childcare is campaigning to keep Childcare Vouchers open to new entrants permanently, as part of a comprehensive and flexible package of support for working families.

Employers For Childcare are asking people to lobby their local MP in support of this campaign – further details on how to do this are available on our website: https://
www.employersforchildcare.org/campaign/giving-parents-a-choice-of-childcare-support/

It’s free, easy to do and takes less than five minutes.

The deadline to join the scheme is fast approaching so we encourage all new parents and families who could benefit and are not registered for Childcare Vouchers to do so now, rather than miss out.  Anyone not sure what financial support they are entitled to can call our Family Benefits Advice Service on 0800 028 3008 for free, impartial, confidential advice.

19  Prehen Ancient Woodland - Call to action

PREHEN HISTORICAL and ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIETY
Ref Prehen Ancient Woodland

Dear friends
Yet another worrying situation has arisen regarding the Prehen Ancient woodland planning situation. In 2013 Minister Attwood placed a planning permission revocation Order on site 1 at the Prehen Woods Development. This removed planning permission for this site but building commenced six weeks ago and now planning are claiming that in spite of this being a very definitive Ministerial Order no real revocation protection exists. You can imagine our shock and surprise at hearing this news.

We are challenging this unreal situation and we have to present our case at a very hastily called meeting TODAY Wed. the 5th Sept at 2pm in Strabane Council offices.

We realise that this is very short notice but it would be greatly appreciated if as many of our supporters as possible could come along and provide support for our group.
