2 Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership Programme The Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership (BCPP) Programme is led by CDHN and funded by the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB), with strategic direction provided by a multi-agency Steering Group. BCPP supports communities and community pharmacists to work in partnership to address locally defined needs so that people make connections, listen to and understand each other better and work together to address the social determinants of health and health inequalities.
We recognise that health is impacted by much more than the everyday lifestyle decisions that we make, important as they are. Research shows that social isolation can be as damaging for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. With this in mind, our projects aim to address these wider issues and tackle the root causes of poor health. These vary greatly for different groups of people and may include mental health issues, housing issues, low educational attainment, poverty or debt. Group work and relationship building is at the core of all our projects. By sharing our assets, our lived experiences and supporting each other we can achieve great things.

3 Challenging Prejudice Leadership Development Programme
Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Good Relations Team are recruiting participants for a Challenging Prejudice Leadership Development Programme, building on the success of the programme in the 2018/19 year. This is a 9 day programme which will explore the events of the Holocaust and how the lessons from it can be utilised to tackle issues today, further information is contained in the attached document. The programme will relate to Local Community Planning and will encourage participants to become active community leaders. This project will involve 4 days of training, an overseas study visit to Krakow to visit sites associated with the holocaust and a final closing session. Participants have to attend in all sessions,

5 The Natural Environment, Community and the Practice of Peace
We would like to invite you to an important conversation about the role of nature and the natural environment in promoting peace.
In light of the recent climate emergency and extinction rebellion movements, do we need to move towards a more global approach to peacebuilding that values environmental as well as human rights?
How can we transition through the current social and environmental crises we are facing and use this time as an opportunity to grow, nourish and build peace?
How can we bring the practice of compassion into peace building and campaigning?
All these questions will be addressed at a seminar being held at St. Columb’s Park House, Derry/Londonderry on Thursday 19th September from 10am to 1pm. (Lunch will be provided.)
Guest speakers will include:
Alistair McIntosh has been described by BBC TV as one of the world’s leading environmental campaigners. A pioneer of modern land reform in Scotland, he helped bring the Isle of Eigg into community ownership. On the Isle of Harris he negotiated withdrawal of the world’s biggest cement company (Lafarge) from a devastating super quarry plan. He is a fellow of the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh and a visiting professor at the College of Social Sciences, University of Glasgow.
Rob Fairmichael has wide experience in the voluntary, community, faith, and peace sectors – he has been a peace activist since 1969. In ‘financial retirement’ he continues to act as coordinator for INNATE, a nonviolence network in Ireland, and edits their news sheet which includes coverage of green issues. He is also a cyclist and organic gardener. He is married to Carmel, and has children and grandchildren.
Fidelma O’Kane is a retired lecturer and former social worker. She is an active member of ‘Save Our Sperrins’ campaign to protect water, air, land and health from the toxic pollution of goldmining. She is married to Cormac McAleer and they have four grown up sons).
Lynda Sullivan is currently the Activism and Community Campaigns Officer at Friends of the Earth Northern Ireland. She has previous experience working in the human rights sector in Ireland after which she spent five years accompanying communities in Latin America, particularly Peru, who were defending their land and water against mega mining projects.
DARE to Lead Change programme (DARE- Dialogues about Race & Ethnicity) is a PEACE IV programme supported by SEUPB. The programme is overseen by Byson Intercultural and delivered by TIDES Training, Mediation and Consultancy. The provision is FREE to community groups, schools, work places, etc right across the province and into the Border counties. We are reaching out to those who are interested in taking part, even if you have participated in other PEACE IV programmes.
This is provision allows various entry points and space for dialogue, conversation and training. It is timely due to the anticipated and unknown changes ahead for community over the next few months.

A ½ day training workshop for managers/supervisors

The North West's new and only symphony orchestra

Despite the city and region’s rich musical heritage and high-quality instrumental education, there has never been an established adult orchestra. The new Orchestra NorthWest seeks to redress this anomaly bringing together hugely talented local players, for the benefit of local people.
As such it will be a very significant event in the life of the city.
Set up by local creative arts group Allegri to address the lack of regional orchestra provision
70 members drawn from those living in Derry, Donegal, Strabane and the wider North West region

Membership includes music teachers but also many others who have gone on to a variety of different careers. Some perform regularly while others have commented on dusting off instrument cases but what unites them all is reconnection to a love of ensemble playing.
Launch event will feature music by Johannes Brahms, John Williams and Alan Silvestri.
Established in May 2019, performance will take place after only 5 afternoon rehearsals
Future plans:
Schedule of workshops with professional musicians and performances in the coming months is planned
Visits from Derry-born professionals now making their living from performing and conducting throughout Ireland and beyond
Educational outreach with the desire to initially engage GCSE and AS/A Level Music students through live performances of their set works, and further plans to give children of all ages the opportunity to experience orchestral music as a live artform.

Independent Custody Visitors are volunteers from the community who monitor the welfare and treatment of people being held in police custody
They do this by making independent, unannounced visits in pairs to police custody suites across Northern Ireland, and report their findings to the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
