2 BBC Children in Need - Waterside theatre funding information session

BBC Children in Need is hosting a funding information session in the Waterside Theatre to explain our current funding opportunities and to give interested parties a chance to talk specifically about a project to one of our staff.

Right now BBC Children in Need is funding over 200 projects in towns and villages all over Northern Ireland with grants totalling over £11m. These are projects working with children and young people who need a bit of support in order to get the best out of life. They may be sick or living in poverty; they may have been abused or neglected, have a disability or be dealing with other challenges that the groups we fund can help them to overcome.

This year because of the generosity of everyone who donates to the charity, over £3.5 million will be spent on projects working with disadvantaged children and young people here in Northern Ireland.

If you would like to attend the funding information session on 22nd May in the Waterside Theatre, Glendermott Rd, Derry/Londonderry BT47 6BG from 10.30am-12.30pm please get in touch with Siobhán McKenna – Siobhan.McKenna@bbc.co.uk / 028 9033 8221

  • Lessons & Experiences from Rwanda

Twenty four years on from the Rwandan genocide, meet the man who believes that God is using the people of Rwanda to teach the church – and the world – about reconciliation.  The moment that Christophe Mbonyingabo came face to face with the gospel in his local church, he faced a challenge; following Christ meant turning his back on ethnic divisions and hatred. It was a hard decision to make…

Christophe’s life had been shaped by ethnic violence. He was from a family of Tutsis from Rwanda. However because of violent tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi peoples, his family had fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 1959. Christophe was born there in exile.

Christophe is supported by Tearfund as part of their Inspired Individuals Leadership programme.

Our Future Foyle presents Architecture of Change

On 26th May we are holding a pop up exhibition around the Peace Bridge, this will contain a series of cubes which will display individual or group responses to 'what does the river mean to you?'.

We are looking for you to collect one of our cubes from at the FabLab in the Nerve Centre early next week and then return them to us by 23rd May 3pm.

You can fill the cube with whatever creative medium you like as a form of exhibition that expresses your organisation or you, and your relationship with the river.

These could be visual, in the form of a soundscape or even something to touch.  the cubes will then create a series of installations connected to the Peace Bridge and riverfront balustrades as part of a public space activity over the weekend of the 26th May.  This work is being used as an important study of mental health around the Peace Bridge in a positive.

Contact Ralf at futurefoyle@gmail.com or 075 9080 7432 to arrange to collect a box.

IMPRINT Training and Facilitation is now offering these highly interactive and fun diversity/inclusion workshops to Primary and Secondary school pupils.

Workshop learning includes an understanding of what prejudice is and how it develops; debunking of myths through activities; empathy generating activities; common interest activities; expression of thought activities and perception activities all aimed at promoting an inclusive attitude.

Workshop capacity: up to 30 pupils (give and take a few!).

Workshop length and cost: varies depending on your requirements but generally last 45 mins - 1 hour, 1-2 hours or a half-day.

Workshops can also be generated around issues of identity, gender, racism, equality and other aspects of cultural diversity.  Sessions can be relatively flexible and developed around your specific requirements and age group.

Please do get in touch if you would like to discuss the possibility of IMPRINT coming into your school.  Together we can raise up and champion a generation to respect their now, to embrace a future of more and to leave a legacy of honour, welcome and openness.

26  Annual Bus Trip: Walled Town of Carrickfergus - Saturday 26th May

The Carrickfergus Town Walls - Saturday 26th May 2018.

Join the Friends of the Derry Walls on our annual bus trip on Saturday May 26th, which, this year, will unpack the heritage of our sister walled town, Carrickfergus. Better known for its Norman castle, Carrickfergus is the only other settlement in Northern Ireland with substantial sections of its town walls still upstanding. Its medieval Street layout, which has been largely maintained within the town wall boundary, gives a real sense of historic origins of the present day town.  For more information, click on the link below.
