19 Special Screening of the Hillsborough film

CRAFT (Derry) Ltd is holding a special screening of Hillsborough, followed by a question and answer session with Professor Phil Scraton, primary author of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's Report and factual consultant to the film.

There will also be a book signing of the new edition of his definitive book.

The event will take place on Thursday 9th November at 7pm in the CRAFT Hub, 3rd floor Rosemount Factory (entrance via the car park at the back of the factory).

Ticket entrance only - tickets are priced at £7 and available from Glenview Community Centre (71268748) and BHCP (71271977).

Seating is limited on each night.

The Film:
Made for ESPN and the BBC and screened to great acclaim around the world in 2014 Dan Gordon’s two-hour documentary, Hillsborough, could not be shown in Britain or Ireland while the recent inquests were in session. Short-listed for an EMMY, the film was broadcast on BBC2 in following the momentous unlawful killing verdict at the Hillsborough inquests. Public reaction was unprecedented and in 2017 it won a BAFTA for best factual documentary. Informed by over two decades of research by Queen’s professor, Phil Scraton, the film uses original footage of the disaster and its aftermath interspersed with harrowing first-hand accounts by the bereaved, survivors, and police officers, exposing the institutionalised injustices and media-fed myths that prevailed for a quarter of a century.

Ninety-six people died, hundreds were injured and thousands traumatised, their pain and suffering exacerbated by a hostile media fueled by ‘official’ accounts purposefully laying the blame at the door of the fans who survived. Beginning on the fateful day in 1989, Hillsborough explores the key developments in the preceding years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes leading to the horrific loss of life. It tells the story of the families’ resilience in their quest for justice, the eventual findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel that exonerated the fans and demonstrated the culpability of the police and other powerful institutions. It concludes with the inquest verdicts and the families’ responses.
